I love how the writers are not depicted Sydney Bristow as Superwoman. She has flaws. In the first 5 minutes, we saw how pain-inflicting
this job is. How is it humanly possible to not cry when you witness the death of four CIA agents? How can she walk away with
a straight face? Sydney is flawed and she froze. She’s not invincible and it was great seeing that. I was in disbelief when she just
stared in front, while Dixon is yelling at her. She was frozen and realized the weight of her mistake.
Sydney has had a bad
week. Now, it’s justifiable if one thinks that Sydney is wrong by not coming clean
to Dixon. Can she forever have the weight of this day on her shoulders? However, one
can also argue that it was not her fault. How was she supposed to know that Dixon had a
secondary detonator? These are great arguments and are certainly thoughts in Sydney’s
head. Furthermore, Sydney learns that the FBI agent investigating Jack also died in the car crash with
her mother. She assumes that Bentley was chasing her father on the bridge. Her mother was in the car and met her end. Those
two scenes, the one in the SD-6 hallway and the one on the street, were the most important. Jack received a blow from his
daughter. She is angry and he knows it. He had no way of retaliating for she explains her motivation to turn him in. On the
street, Jack retaliates and accuses Sydney of coming to conclusions too early. He really attacks her by refusing to break
the rules and confess the truth. He doesn’t want to make the same mistake she made. That hit really close to home and
I’m glad Jack taught his daughter a lesson.
So Vaughn’s father was a CIA agent who died in the
line of duty. He vividly remembers the funeral. He was eight and since then, has memorized one word: admonished. It was absolutely
powerful watching him hug the deceased agent’s son. He didn’t care if it was against the rules. He remembers wanting
a hug and he gave the child a hug. He decided to be a friend, rather than a colleague. It was a remarkable moment.
Eloise Kurtz has disappeared. Let’s make sure I have
this all straightened out. She was paid to act like Kate Jones and say she had an affair with Danny. Why has she so suddenly
changed her mind? Why did she tell Will to meet her at her place? Will we see her again?
Syd’s Tips
-
When wanting to break into an office, throw
your purse at the door right after the last person inside leaves. You will now have full access because your purse will act
as a door-stopper.
-
When walking in a highly-secured room, cover
the motion detector with a hat. You will be free to walk the room.

Quotable Quotes
-
Sydney: “Is anything ever unacceptable to you?” I love when she yells
at Vaughn.
-
Charlie: “Francie, I want to be a singer.”
Could that be any more unexpected?
-
Dixon (when talking about the boat): “How does it work?”
Marshall: “Very well.” He’s hysterical.
-
Sydney: “Every time I think I know how awful you are, I find out something worse.”
Ouch!
-
Vaughn: “I was eight when my father
became one of those stars.”
-
Sydney: “Right in my closet.”
Francie: “Thanks,
but I’ve got boobs.” Oh no you didn’t!
-
Jack: “What you think you know, you
don’t.”
-
Jack: “Just think about what you’re
saying. Acting cavalier about breaking the rules. Think about the last time you did that.” Powerful.
-
Sloane: “I think we have a mole.”
Some Final Notes
-
Marshall caught the leak. There goes that idea.
-
So Charlie wasn’t cheating on Francie.
That’s good.
-
We saw Will’s sister, Amy.
-
Jack, when speaking of FTL, mentioned T-47.
There’s that magic number again.
-
Sloane knows there’s a mole. I’m
starting to freak out.
-
Cliffhanger: Sydney is stuck in a mental facility in Bucharest where her backup agent is dead. Those places look scary.
I thought the episode was
great. Very dark, but we had some light stuff also. 4 out of 5 stars.
