The Indicator
Episode 2.5

Someone’s been a naughty father. We learnt the darkest of all truths: Jack programmed Sydney to become a spy. What? Just when the two had sorted everything out, they’re back at the bottom. I truly think that Sydney will never forgive him. Not only did he set up her mother, he subjected her to “Project Christmas.” This episode was full of emotion, revelation, and excellent writing. I loved it.

Obviously, the biggest storyline this week was the Sydney/Jack struggle. Everything started when Sydney was tasked by SD-6 to take pictures of sixteen new-generation weapons. The sixteen weapons were children. That’s terrible. Turns out that these children are trained to become sleeper spies in case they’re ever needed in the future. After this six-week program, their memories are erased and they go about their normal lives. Sydney recognized the professor overseeing the children’s activities. Once the CIA tracked him to his house, they infiltrated. On a table, Sydney saw what looked like a jigsaw. She started assembling the puzzle. It seemed easy to her, like she had done it before. She went back in her past using hypnosis, and saw her father handing her a gun. She was also doing the puzzle. It was confirmed. Jack had used his daughter as a lab rat.

“Project Christmas” has become a huge element of the show. For starters, this proves that Sydney was meant to become a spy. “Project Christmas” was also the reason why Irina Derevko met Jack. She was tasked to enquire on this new project that was being developed by Jack Bristow. She was meant to fall in love with him. After her disappearance, Jack used the time to train Sydney to become a sleeper agent. Why would they choose “Project Christmas?” It could mean the birth of new spies as in the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas. That’s the best I could do.

Vaughn keeps irritating me. He can’t keep his mouth shut and he can’t possibly mind his own business. He’s really getting on my nerves. I know a lot of you like him, but I can’t seem to have any sympathy for him. For starters, he assumes that Jack is always the bad guy, he always tries to score points with Sydney, and he pisses me off. Is that enough or should I continue?

I am going to jump with joy if it turns out that Emily is alive. Of all the characters, she seems to be the most innocent (with Marshall of course). She never deserved what she got. It’s a shame that Sloane controlled her every move. It’s also a shame that she never had children. On second thought, would we want little Baby Sloanes? Jack, along with Sloane, now believes that she took something to counter the effects of sodium morphate. How would she now she was taking sodium morphate? This thing has me all confused. You want the truth? I think Sloane saved Emily. I think he planned all of this. I’m so proud of myself. I have theories. Back in “Almost Thirty Years,” Emily gives Sloane a weird stare right before she takes a sip from her wine. Weird stuff.

Syd’s Tips

-          When infiltrating a residence, the best thing to do is shut down the power. The enemy will be disoriented.

Quotable Quotes

-          Jack: “They’re going to ask the death penalty.” Momma could be on her way out.

-          Sloane: “Sixteen next-generation weapons.” We got something we never imagined.

-          Jack: “You have enemies Arvin.” Ya think?

-          Sloane: “Emily wasn’t a bargaining chip.” Quit lying.

-          Sydney: “The irony is that since she’s been back, my father and I are closer than ever.” Now you’re back at the beginning.

-          Sydney: “I know what it feels like to be used.”

-          Sydney: “Sixth grade was an awkward phase for me.”
Will: “Oh, come on. You, awkward?”
Sydney: “Yeah. Big teeth and little eyes. And I always was a foot taller than everyone else so I sort of hunched over.” Great one.

-          Will: “When I was in sixth grade, I was sort of anonymous. You know, you had the smart kid, and the funny kid, and the good athlete. And I was just Will.” We like you anyways.

-          Vaughn(about Weiss being shot): “It was rough, but he's gonna be okay, which is more than I can say about the nursing staff.”

-          Sydney: “You took away my choices in life. You programmed me to be a spy. I will never forgive you for this.” Best scene of the night.

Some Final Notes

-          I want Weiss back.

-          Is Syd going straight for Vaughn every time?

-          Francie opened a restaurant. It looks really cool inside. I liked watching Will bring all his AA friends. That was nice.

-          Jack is in trouble. Do you thing Syd will rat on him?

-          Watching Sydney put the puzzle together was scary.

-          I liked Marshall’s flying camera.

-          Sloane is getting scarier every day, especially when I saw him coming out of the shower? Why couldn’t it be Jennifer?

-          I find SD-6 is getting in the way. Season 1 was all about the double life whereas season 2 is focusing more on Jack/Irina.

Loved this one. 5 stars
