The Counteragent
Episode 2.7

Wow. I can’t find one flaw in the show in this season. It keeps getting better and better. Vaughn almost died this week and Sydney saved him. That was awesome. She really went crazy when she found out. She cares for him so much. Irina was great this week as she keeps mingling with Sydney and Vaughn’s relationship. Also, Sark is working for SD-6. Let’s say “wow” one more time: WOW!

I’m glad this week the show revolved strictly around Sydney. The writers always have twenty different character storylines in an episode and this one was different. The episode depended on Sydney. She was at the center of every event. She found the antidote for Vaughn. She delivered Sloane to Sark. Let’s talk first about Vaughn. I’ve always had a problem with him. Now I know why. First of all, he doesn’t tell Sydney that he’s back with Alice. He keeps dropping hints that he loves her. Make a choice, pal. Second of all, he gave Sydney the most underwhelming thank you ever. What’s up with that? Third of all, the girl who likes you doesn’t want to hear about your girlfriend. Why would he even try to explain how he got back together with Alice? He’s aggravating me. Because Sydney loves him, I’ll tolerate him. She went insane when she found out he was back in the hospital. She went as far as delivering Sloane to Sark.

Who wouldn’t want Sloane dead? The mission in Tokyo was one of my favourites. Sydney dressed up as a geisha was priceless. She didn’t really look Chinese though. Why do the writers always have Sloane undress on camera? Ron Rifkin is a wonderful actor, but I’d much rather see Jennifer Garner. That’s just my opinion. Anyways, it was great watching Sark pair up with Sydney. He obviously is attracted by her or at least intrigued. On numerous occasions, he complimented her and enjoyed “checking” her out. He can be very ruthless. He was going to let Sydney melt if she hadn’t accepted his offer. That’s cruel.

Irina is getting on everyone’s nerves. Vaughn was practically dying in front of her and she requested to know the truth between Sydney and him. That’s just bad. What’s the woman going to do? She’s stuck in a prison cell with no knowledge of what is truly going on in the outside world. One has to love her timing though. She can be such a snake. I love her for that. When Vaughn recovered, he went to see her. He thanks her, but she says she didn’t do it for him. Something tells me that Irina has caught on. She knows Sydney genuinely cares for Vaughn. This makes it even more awkward for her knowing that she killed Vaughn’s father. Family get-togethers should be fun.

Will is investigating something very convoluted. His friend Abigail couldn’t find any records of the questions Will was referring to on the 1982 standardized IQ exam. He dug a bit deeper and he found out that that test Abigail found was the wrong one. He went to see some professor who showed him the original test. He approves every IQ test. I’ve never believed in those tests. Those questions were on there. The professor says he had never seen such a thing on a test. He had never seen those questions. Does this mean that the CIA replaced all the tests with the real ones after the 82’ test? All the original ones were shipped out. Supposedly, five million children took the test. That’s a lot of kids.

Syd’s Tips

-          When needing to smuggle a sharp weapon, stick in your hair and use it as a disguise.

Quotable Quotes

-          Irina: “I owe you my life.”

Vaughn: “You owe me my father’s life.”

-          Sloane: “Emily’s alive and she knows what I did.” I hope so.

-          Sark: “You and I are destined together. I believe that.” Great.

-          Richter: “Smila is my wife.” There’s only so much torture a man can take.

-          Will: “How many kids took the test?”

Professor: “Over five million students.” That’s overwhelming.

-          Sydney: “Tell me you agree with me. That we have no choice in this.”

Jack: “Of course we have a choice. It’s a moment I never wanted you to face. To kill someone. I’m not talking about self-defense. I’m talking about premeditated murder. To be there when the door closes on him for the last time. Knowing you are responsible. That is something you never were close to considering before getting to know your mother.” He has the best lines.

-          Sark: “Good luck Sydney.”

Sydney: “I don’t need you to wish me luck you son of a bitch.”

Sark: “That’s a wonderful attitude.”

Some Final Notes

-          When will we see Emily again?

-          We need some more Sark/Sydney missions.

-          What’s going to happen with Sark at SD-6? This is going to be fun.

-          So Khasineau was testing the contaminated bodies. I love the references to season 1. That’s good to hear.

-          Alice doesn’t know Vaughn’s part of the CIA.

-          I loved the geisha scenes.

-          Having to use a patient’s blood to get the antidote was cool.

-          The Alliance is getting impatient with Sloane. After his integration as a partner, SD-6 has been faltering often. Maybe Sydney’s getting better.

-          I still find the concept of the CIA having it’s own hospital scary. There are even SD-6 hospitals.

I loved this episode. 5 stars
