God, That's Good
Episode 3.19

This week’s blackout episode wasn’t a blackout for the show, but a shiny moment. Desperate Housewives is better than it ever has been. It’s great. It’s funny, it’s desperate, and it’s all around on the ball. I don’t find myself rolling my eyes anymore. I don’t have time to roll them as they’re fixated on the screen.

Even without Bree, the show is holding on. Our characters are great again. The character I am most pleased with is Susan. I was in tears in almost every single one of her episodes. Her scenes during the blackout were typical Susan scenes, but not overdone—tastily done. The oddest thing happened: Ian wanted to ask Mike for dinner. I knew this was going to be a disaster right when Susan ran to ask Mike to decline the offer. I didn’t know he had a devilish mind. Everyone on this show does.

The dinner scenes were perfect. Susan invited Maggie, her wedding caterer, in an attempt to get back at Mike. He started talking about his past in prison. I think he might have scared off the poor girl forever. And then, my new classic moment: the cake scene. Mike and Ian just stood there in awe as she was making a whole fuss over two cakes. We all knew though that it was about the two guys. That is a dilemma indeed. I couldn’t help but laugh though. She’s so dramatic. Everything started floating to the surface. She found out about the deal and she kicked them both out of her life. For how long though?

Were you all shocked with Gabby’s encouraging speech to the press? Victor is bringing out the best in her. It all started out with the “compromising” photos Gabby got to do a lot of interesting things: she beat the crap out of the stalker (favourite scene of the night), she had some steamy moments in the elevator (we all loved those), and she stood up for her man).

I don’t think Gabby has ever felt this way. She’s been swept off her feet this time. Victor is everything Carlos is not. When Gabby said she gave the pictures away, he didn’t want to annihilate her like Carlos would have done. He wanted to fix the problem for the sake of his relationship with Gabrielle. He even tells her that she’s more important than his campaign. Well, I don’t really think so, but we’ll say he wasn’t lying. He stood up on the podium and took all the heat for Gabby’s mistake. Now they’re going to get married and we know craziness is ahead.

As some relationships are established, others are still taking form as Carlos and Edie sneak around in any empty house they can find. At least they’re having good sex now. Carlos didn’t fully commit to the relationship though. He always thought he’d be able to get back to gabby. Edie is not liking this. This is her first genuine relationship. I hope these two last. It’s doing a lot of good for Edie and Travers might just exactly get the dad he always might have wanted.

Some relationships however are falling for the pits. Lynette and Tom are on their way out. They’re arguing and there’s a new guy in the mix. Rick has saved the Scavos from bankruptcy, but not from marital problems. He’s flirting with Lynette and maybe, for the first time, she’s being noticed for what she has accomplished. After Rick complimented her about keeping her hair down, she leaves her house how? With her hair down. I would have never taken Lynette for an adulterer. I hope she doesn’t land herself there.

I understand what Tom’s going through. He is feeling defenseless again. In the first season, he wasn’t bringing enough money in for the family; Lynette was on the verge of depression. In the second season, he is outranked by his wife at the marketing firm. Now, he’s practically paralyzed, leaving the restaurant to his wife. What else can the man do? He’s not doing well that’s for sure.

Mrs. McCluskey is in jail. What exactly did she tell Parker? Why was he smiling? I’m assuming she was lying to him. Because of the blackout though, her husband’s dead body began to stink. I can just imagine. Poor Aida must have had a heart attack when she saw the fridge. What’s up with this mystery now?

Desperate Moments

Moment of the week: Lynette takes the bun off her hair to let her hair down. She does so right before going to work and seeing Rick. She’s been neglected from her husband and now she wants to impress the new man in her life.

More moments: Gabrielle jumping on the stalker (was it because he called her a maid, or because he took the pictures), Susan putting an end to the wedding, Edie using a kid’s bed for her session with Carlos, Mrs. McCluskey telling her secret to Parker, Tom telling Kayla to not read the newspaper article.

The Neighborhood Watch by Katey Price

I keep hearing screaming coming from the Scavo house. For goodness sake’s, they are leaving their children out in the front yard. I was passing by in the car as they were creeping into Mrs. McCluskey’s house. I was assuming they were going to get something from her basement. I’m hearing that Lynette is staying late at the restaurant with the new chef Rick. Tom doesn’t know any of this yet.

Then, at Victor Lang’s rally, oh my God, Gabrielle actually got up on the podium and saved her fiancé’s campaign. Yes, she’s going to marry him. I heard however that she was at first iffy about the idea. I guess she was just swept away by his persona. He is so powerful up on stage. I don’t blame her for falling into his arms.

Quotable quotes

-          Mary-Alice: “Every rule has its exceptions.”

-          Susan: “Ian, you’ve tasted my cooking. It’s not a thank-you. It’s revenge.” Yes it is.

-          Mike: “I thought I heard sex noises.”

Carlos: “That was me.” This was hysterical.

-          Edie: “We’re trying to sneak around so our parents don’t find us doing it. It feels like I’m twelve again.” Wow. Twelve?

-          Victor: “We’re in an elevator.”

Gabrielle: “I know. Going down.”

-          Victor: “Will you marry me?”

Gabby: “It’s just a toasted waffle.”

-          Stalker: “She’s crazy.”

Gabrielle: “That’s for calling me the maid.”

-          Mike: “You wanna taste them again?”

-          Susan: “I can’t have two wedding cakes.” This was fun.

Some Final Notes

-          Mrs. McCluskey fell down the stairs. Blackouts can do a lot of things. I laughed at the clip with the boy reading porn.

-          Susan broke one of her nice vases and almost lit herself on fire. She’s too much.

-          Why did Carlos want to keep his affair with Edie secret from Mike? They barely dated.

-          Lynette charged $22 for a carbonara. I loved when she kept rising the prices.

-          McCluskey snapped the paramedic. She likes slapping people.

-          Susan just made me laugh when she gave Mike one of her stares after he accepted the dinner invitation.

-          Lynette’s kids didn’t mind eating spinach when Rick made it. That must have been a blow to Tom.

-          Maggie the caterer ran away from Susan’s house crying.

-          I loved the scene with Russel the real estate agent calling Edie a slut and she calling him a “bitch” when he walked in on them having sex.

-          At the dinner table, Susan kicked Maggie rather than Mike accidentally.

-          Tom went crazy when Kayla was reading the newspaper article. That was a good article though.

-          Susan has taken off her wedding ring.

Loved the episode. 5 stars
