What Would We Do Without You?
Episode 3.22

Weddings are in the air on Desperate Housewives and it just seems like the cool thing to be doing. That doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to be doing. But you have to give the housewives their credit: most of them are trying to find happiness wherever they can. In some cases, there isn’t much to go around.

I just feel bad for Lynette. It feels like such a shame for her to be going through this. First, she loses the only bit of happiness she would ever get during the day and now she has to learn she has lymphoma. You know what’s just plain weird? If I would have just picked one woman to have cancer on this show, it would have been Lynette. That’s morbid, but think about it. Lynette is the most normal character on the show and she just breathes desperation. She’s at the bottom of the barrel and she just can’t find happiness. This can make he situation much worse.

How ignorant can Tom get? I think paying a therapist to act like a friend is just plain weird. He had amazing scenes with his wife. The scenes in the bedroom were incredible and weird. He thought his wife wanted to hear the good news that he was going to be able to have sex soon. Bad move Tom. Lynette just went wild during that scene. I jumped when he threw her off the bed.

Then, Edie was acting all depressed and she was trying to get pregnant…but she wasn’t. She’s trying to manipulate Carlos into staying with her. She used his loneliness and his vulnerability against him. He wants kids and he’s waiting for his life to start again. He’s trying to get over Gabrielle and Edie made him believe that a child can fix that. As if. Edie doesn’t want to get pregnant.

When you think about it, Edie can be really ruthless if she wanted to. She is selfish and she uses any means she can to get what she wants. Acting like a true desperate housewife. What are her intentions though? How long can she keep this lie going? Is she hoping for Carlos to develop a love for her? I don’t get it.

I also couldn’t stop laughing during the scenes with Gabrielle and Susan. I honestly thought the whole idea of a joint-wedding was going to happen. Could you just imagine the disaster? This is what happens when people get drunk: they say stupid things. I loved how both Susan and Gabby were worried about hurting each other’s feelings. Just come out and say it. I think that might be a bride’s worst nightmare—to share a wedding. What a bad idea.

Gabrielle is definitely going to get cold feet. She might be realizing that Victor isn’t really the one. His true colours showed today as he began worrying about his image over his desire to be happy with Gabrielle. This can pose a problem. She’s feeling uneasy especially after hearing the way Susan is feeling about Mike. Susan is happy; Gabrielle isn’t necessarily happy. She is definitely loving the ride she’s on, but is that enough to marry someone?

I think she’s really looking for that special something that Susan has. This woman cannot be any happier. She’s finally with the man that she was supposed to marry a year earlier. I loved the scenes in the restaurant. Susan was quite delightful this week—a welcomed change. I loved how the two weddings came in conflict with each other but Susan was right to pull out. It’s Gabby’s time now.

Desperate Moments

Lynette holds Tom’s hand in the hospital room when she finds out that she might have cancer. This scene just rang desperation highlighted by Lynette’s decision to finally accept her husband’s help again.

More moments: Edie keeps taking her birth control pills, Susan throws Gabrielle’s sampling of her wedding flowers at the wall, Carlos looking at his invitation to Gabrielle’s wedding.

The Neighborhood Watch by Katey Price

So there I was taking my dog out for his nightly walk when I passed by Susan’s house and saw this huge trailer all lit up with a small table set for two. Isn’t that romantic? Supposedly, Mike was going to propose to Susan on her front lawn, the way she was waiting for him outside in the forest a year ago. How romantic. I wish he were my man. He’s so sweet and charming…and he’s got a cute…anyways.

So then supposedly, Susan rescheduled the wedding on the SAME DAY as Gabrielle’s. Both of them weren’t happy about it and there were rumours that there was going to be a joint-wedding between the two. Yeah, okkkk. Bottomline: Susan has decided to postpone the wedding and give Gabrielle the right to enjoy this marriage alone. I wouldn’t mind me some Victor Lang also. I gotta stop now.

Quotable Quotes

-          Susan: “People are gonna think I’m a complete flake.” I think they might already think that.

-          Gabrielle (about Lynette’s Penny): “I saw that girl in her play and she has zero charisma.”

-          Gabrielle: “You’re like a hot groom and a gay best friend all in one.”

-          Edie: “I didn’t know the concept of our marriage was a thigh slapper.”

-          Edie (about Carlos): “Smack. He does smack.”

-          Gabrielle: “What, now you have trademark on peach tulips?”

-          Gabrielle: “What if you realize you miss Ian and Mike his coma.”

-          Edie: “I just peed on that. For God’s sake, put it on a coaster.”

-          Edie: “At least get a thoughtless, crappy gift like…a blender.”

Susan: “I got you a blender.” Yeah, blenders aren’t good.

-          Gabrielle (to Susan): “If I was a lesbian, I would totally do you.” My favourite one of the night.

Some Final Notes

-          I loved watching Susan wait for the popping of the question during dinner. Typical. Then, she asked first.

-          Edie went to the owner of Mike’s house and told her Carlos was a junkie.

-          Susan had a tantrum in Gabrielle’s house. That was fun.

-          Gabrielle stole Susan’s wedding. That deserves a tantrum.

-          Carlos got so excited when he heard he might be having a child. I guess he just wants to get his life started.

-          The scenes with Scott the psychologist were hard to watch. How could Tom do that?

-          I liked the scene where Susan asks Edie and Lynette for advice. There was the demon then the angel.

-          Victor is really occupied with his self-image.

-          That wild sex was scary in Lynette’s bedroom. She went crazy.

-          So what’s going to happen with the lymphoma? Can this really happen?

Very good. 4 stars
