If Tomorrow Never Comes
Episode 1.6

Tomorrow better come because that’s one less day I have to wait until the next Grey’s Anatomy. Honestly, this episode was by far the best this season and that is saying a lot. It was fresh, touching, funny, and just plain flawless. What else should I expect from this show?

We have to talk about that huge tumor Miss Connors had. That thing was my size. I’m exaggerating, but still. She let it get that big because all her relatives were treated in a hospital and they all died. She was scared to die. But it turns out it was her turn. I really liked the character even though I would have hoped that she was a bit more responsible. She turned out to be the only person who ever liked Alex and he goes and blows it. That sounds a lot like Alex. Her condition got so bad that the blood vessels inside the tumor were as big as a thumb. I know she was afraid of hospitals and all that, but come on. Doesn’t she know that a tumor like that can’t be good for you? And why didn’t her mother push her to consult a doctor? I don’t like when people are like that. But it did make for an incredible story. All the doctors on the floor were called to assist with the operation. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Cristina and George who had to hold the tumor up for twelve hours. I would drop it after two.

We finally saw a bit more of Alex than we have in the past. I think it was necessary. We never knew he could actually be sincere towards another human being. We didn’t even think he could fake it. It turns out he can do both. His sincerity to Miss Connors during rounds was an act. He really thought she was a pathetic loser. When he left the mike in the CT room on, she heard the whole thing. It was nothing she had never heard before. But coming from Karev, it was a shock. Alex somehow found the way to redeem himself by rushing to get the blood to the OR room. He’s late, but at least he sticks around to see how she’s doing. In the end, he really cared for her. Alex cares for people in other ways. At least he cares.

Izzie was again the star of the episode. She actually sticks her hand in someone’s body to take out the clot. I can’t believe she did that. I’m proud of her, but I’m speechless. Everyone’s faces in the OR room were priceless. Christina was in shock. She was probably telling herself, ‘I’m stuck holding a tumor, while she’s opening a body taking out a clot.’ Then to cap off Izzie’s story, she had a spaz attack in the scrub room when she started yelling at Alex. That was the best scene of the night. I was laughing like you wouldn’t believe.

I don’t know if I agree with Bailey or not, but I can understand her frustration. Meredith’s fling with McDreamy is definitely going to affect her day. It is. The time her other interns start complaining about Meredith is the time Bailey doesn’t have. I understand that. But she can make an effort to accept the fact that Meredith didn’t know he was her boss when they met. Bailey holds herself too high. She assumes everyone’s at fault if they haven’t done things the way she would have. If she had met me, I would have been hung by her. Bailey needs to realize that her interns need guidance. She hasn’t given it to them so far.

Dear Diary:

Alex: I can’t believe Annie died. I could have gotten there earlier. I could have given her the blood. I didn’t think of leaving earlier. I should have been a better person. Who was I to judge her the way I did? It’s all over now. We all pushed her to get the surgery and she died. I only wished she had the common sense to come sooner. That thing was huge. Izzie’s mad at me because she says she paged me fifty times. I forgot to change my pager’s battery. She doesn’t have to go all crazy on me. She took out a blood clot in someone’s chest with her bare hands. What’s she got to be angry about?

Izzie: He is the most insensitive lunatic I have ever met. Who forgets to change the battery of their pager? Their HOSPITAL pager? What is he like five? He can’t be responsible for one damn thing. I nearly killed a man putting my hand in his chest, but what else could I have done? Alex is a moron. I’m sure I made a fool of myself in front of the other doctors, but I don’t give a crap. I need support. I’m not about to go crazy because this loser intern can’t handle changing his stupid battery. I’ve never heard of such a thing. He actually said “I forgot.” Seriously?

Today’s Baileyisms

-          “You think you’re charming in that talent, neurotic, overly moussed hair sort of way, good for you.”

-           “You don’t scare me. Look, I’m not going to advertise your extracurricular activities with my intern. However, the next time I see you favoring Meredith Grey in any way, I’ll make sure she doesn’t see the inside of an OR for a month. Just for the sake of balance.”

Quotable Quotes

-          George (spilling coffee): “Ah! Hot!”

Izzie: “Wouldn’t it be easier to just ask her out?”

-          Izzie: “Life is short George, do you really want to die before you ask her out?”

George: “I do not want to ask her out.”

Izzie: “Do you really want to die a liar?”

George: “I’m not … dying.”

-          Cristina: “Oh, please, a hot doctor wants to make you open up and say ah. It’s the American dream, stop whining about it.”

Meredith: “No, there’s no good that can come from sleeping with your boss.”

-          Annie (to George): “Seriously? You’re equating your pathetic love life with my record-breaking tumor? Seriously?”

-          Derek: “You know they call you the Nazi.”

Bailey: “So I’ve heard.”

-          Cristina: “If I stab this fork into his thigh will I get in trouble?”

Meredith: “Not if you make it look like an accident.”

-          Cristina: “If they pull this off, I’m totally calling Oprah.” Yes she will.

-          Meredith: “Are you really as shallow and callous as you seem?”

Alex: “Want to grab a drink and hear about my secret pain?”

Meredith: “Does that line ever work for you?”

Alex: “Sometimes.”

-          Meredith: “Sorry I called you a jackass.”
Dr. Shepherd: “You didn’t.”
Meredith: “I did... twice.”

-          Izzie (to Alex): “You are hateful! Hateful! Hateful, arrogant, lazy . . . hateful man! Hateful!”

Derek: “Well, never a dull moment here at Seattle Grace. Scalpel.” There is not.

Some Final Notes

-          George is really hitting rock bottom. He needs to ask Meredith out soon. Spilling coffee on himself every morning is not working.

-          After having sex in some lab with Burke, Cristina says it was worth being late for. Someone enjoys her sex.

-          I loved the story for Mr. Levangie. It mirrored exactly what was going on with Meredith. I’m glad he decided to have the surgery. His daughter will be able to walk down the aisle with him at her wedding.

-          The scene in the OR when Mr. Levangie realizes he can touch his hands together is truly touching. One of the best scenes ever.

-          Bailey’s conversation with Derek in the elevator was great. She tells him, “you don’t scare me.” He’s her attending. How doesn’t she fear her bosses.

-          Christina mentions something about a  Chief resident. Is that Bailey?

-          I didn’t like Meredith getting the patient because she answered the question correctly. She should have kept her mouth shut and wait for Izzie to answer the question.

-          After Bailey speaks to Derek, he yells at her for wanting Mr. Levangie to have brain surgery. That was uncalled for. It made Bailey happy though.

-          Connors says all her relatives die in a hospital. She was scared sick of what the doctors could do to her.

-          The lunch scene was a disaster. George invites everyone to get a drink after obviously wanting Meredith to come. Cristina realizes he likes her and starts cracking up.

-          Izzie personally thanks the guy who threw up on Alex. She called him her favourite person today. I like him too.

-          Burke is at a point now where he wants a definition of what him and Cristina are doing. Cristina is not that type of woman. She isn’t the one to commit to a relationship or even talk about the sex after. They are polar opposites.

-          Meredith invites Derek for a bottle of wine overlooking a ferryboat. Isn’t she a romantic?

-          “If Tomorrow Never Comes” is the title of a Garth Brooks song, a Ronan Keating song, and a Westlife song.

Best episode yet. 5 stars
