The Other Side of this Life
Episode 22 and 23

It seems like I’ve been waiting for this episode FOREVER. And when it finally came, it was well worth the wait. It was more than worth it. I am on board now for this spinoff. I am so psyched. It’s unbelievable. For me though, the bits of Grey’s were just not as good. I’ll dissect both shows separately.

Grey’s Anatomy (meeeehhh)

You know, at this point, anything they so seems like it’s not good enough. I mean, for that moment, Susan dying was a great thing to do. But after I turned off my tv, I was like, ‘that was a stupid thing to do.’ I have conversations with myself I’ll have you know. It just felt slightly contrived. She just lost her mother and I just found it unnecessary for her to lose her stepmother. I would have thought that to be a smart season four plotline. Just not now. I was enjoying their ongoing relationship.

If there was a beautiful moment to take out of this was Thatcher slapping Meredith. Jeff Perry, the actor behind Thatcher, did a beautiful job. You couldn’t stay angry at him because we all felt for his loss. We all knew how much his wife’s death means to him. It’s going to ruin him. His daughters are living in another city. He was all alone and Susan was his only link to Meredith.

It also felt like Thatcher is a lost cause for Meredith now. This is the last stray for her. Susan was sort of the woman who kept her intact. And now, Thatcher is going to be a disaster. But here’s what I think: he’ll come running to Meredith. I love my theories. I just don’t want that relationship to end. I want Meredith to just be happy. Shonda doesn’t seem to like Meredith. Why can’t the girl just be happy?

And why are we still with Gizzie? This is ridiculous. Like seriously, this must be the worst pairing ever. EVER. Why? How? What good does it bring to the show? It’s not the new Addison/Derek/Meredith. That one at least had some substance. This love triangle is ridiculous. If George in fact leaves Callie for Izzie, I might be over the show. I’m not kidding. That’s how annoying I think it is. Okay, I might not quit. But I will be pissed.

The Cristina stuff…loved it to bits. What a great way to bring back the annoyingly amazing mothers. I just love how Cristina calls Burke’s mom “momma.” I love it. The wedding shopping scenes were amazing. I loved Cristina calling her bridesmaids “cotton-candy.” Very nice moment. And if you’ve noticed, Cristina has always been the one settling for things. She’s doing this elaborate wedding for Burke. She’s wearing a dress for Burke. When is she going to get what she wants?

But I don’t think it’s going to be her calling off the wedding; it’s going to be Burke. His talk with his mother really got to him and I really don’t think he’s feeling the same way he once did. Cristina is not into it as he is. It’s going to really bother him.

Private Practice (may be better than Grey’s)

There’s just something beautiful and disarming about this wonderful (and possible) new series. Set in the beautiful and very “unSeattle” LA, Addison went for a vacation. What she saw there might change her life forever.

First off, you guys all remember how much I loved Addison. Now, I love her ten times more. That’s the beauty of Kate Walsh. She is going to definitely lead the show well. There was something so innocent about Addison this week. She really got to me. I can understand how tough her life is. She’s been rejected now by three men and she’s kind of sick of it. I loved how she ran for LA for some good news but all she got was the news that she’s sterile.

He dream all along was to get pregnant. She feels she jumped on the bandwagon too late. It’s time for her to start over somehow. Her decision was swift and convincing. She left to have a baby. There is no thought needed. Her scene in the elevator were powerful after she found out she was indeed sterile. It was a beautiful moment that showed the audience exactly who Addison is; a confused woman.

The funny thing is that she ran to her friend Naomi, who supposedly did everything right: she got married, she stayed with one man, she had a child, she has an incredible job and she’s a good mother. That’s when things get complicated: Naomi is divorced, she feels she has not seen life to its fullest and she wants some fun. Who can blame her? Played by the amazing Merrin Dungey, Naomi sprang onto the screen as if she was a true Grey’s character. My friend and I freaked when we saw her. We want Francie back. The fertility doctor is a great character and we hope to see her have more fun in the future.

Now that she’s finally over her husband, Sam, this might work. Known as “Mr. Feelgood,” he walks around LA with women throwing themselves at him. Was it just me or was Taye Diggs really short? I thought he was taller. In any case, he plays a very fun character, Jackson. He might be my least liked character, probably because he wasn’t as developed as the rest. I love his involvement in the show though.

Then we’re off to the “McDreamy,” Pete, played by Tim Daly. Were you gals jumping over that final kiss with Addison? The alternative medical doctor first tried using acupuncture on the overly stressed OB/GYN from Seattle. So this guy seems to be a manwhore like no other. He scared off their past OB/GYN and that’s why the spot is no open for Addison. I want her there.

Then there was the pediatrician who had me laughing all the time: Connor. This guy is a real freak. He likes meeting people over the internet: young, dirty girls. But I really did enjoy his relationship with Violet. She’s another mess. Still devastated by her breakup with Allan, Violet keeps crying. I really did enjoy her scenes, even when she was alone. Just really nice scenes.

I also love the new environment. It’s laid back. It’s cozier. It’s even much funner. I loved watching Naomi freak out over Dell. She so wanted him propped against her. I’m glad she decided not to kiss him. “Not a chance in hell,” she says. That was very fun. I really do hope Addison comes back. The wellness centre idea just works for me.

-          Callie: “I will make things clear. I will not be wearing pink or baby blue and I do not do flowers in my hair and I will not be seen with a bow on my ass.”

Some Final Notes

-          I loved the return of the two mothers. I want more of them.

-          Mark was so angry that Addison took off. He was ready to take Alex’s head off.

-          I loved Addison’s red car.

-          Tilly was hysterical. She is the “elevator god” from now on.

-          I loved the moment when Cristina asked Callie to be her bridesmaid. The ongoing whispering was great.

-          How did Susan’s hiccups kill her? I don’t understand that still.

-          The case of Lisa and the three fathers was really fun. I loved the theme of family that was explored.

-          Cooper called his cyber girlfriend “sexyboobs316.”

-          I loved the acupuncture scene.

-          How did Ava know four languages during the surgery?

-          I freaked when Lisa’s baby wasn’t crying.

-          Burke and George said they don’t believe in divorce.

-          Did all you Chris Lowell freak when you saw him walk in with his bathing suit? I laughed watching Naomi stare like a psycho.

-          The other patient Paul with the low sex drive was also a fun case. It turns out he had a tumor.

-          Violet saying Alan used to pee when he coughed was disturbing.

-          Derek watched Meredith as she drank with the interns. He’s really getting pushed away.

4 stars for Grey’s and 5 for Private Practive.
