That was nice. Since the beginning of the series, I always
wanted to find out more about this couple. Both Daniel Dae Kim and Yunjin Kim were excellent. I think both actors are beautifully
cast as Jin and Sun respectively. In order to play a couple, there’s a certain chemistry that’s needed and both
these actors perfectly exceed that expectation. This was another excellent episode. Have we even seen the worst of this show
yet? For all I know, this could be the nothing compared to what the writers have planned for us. Awesome stuff.
I remember watching Daniel Dae Kim on 24 and thinking, ‘this
guy can only be an extra.’ I take that back. You happy? I wonder if Daniel
is American or Korean. His Korean seems good, but is it authentic? I ask the stupidest
questions don’t I? I was caught completely by surprise when I saw that Jin was the one working for Sun. He was a
waiter who fell in love with the untouchable bachelorette. I wasn’t surprised at all that Jin turned out to be Sun’s
father’s gofer. Jin was doing his dirty work. Sun’s father is a powerful man with powerful enemies. I absolutely
loved Jin’s early devotion to Sun. He originally gave her but a flower. That memory stuck with her forever. Sometimes
it takes a simple gesture to win someone over. When Sun was ready to run away, Jin showed her the flower in the airport. She
wasn’t able to leave him. She loves him and he really loves her.
And
Sun can speak English? WHAT?! That was a great twist and I’m glad she only told Michael. Would Jin really scold her
if he found out she could speak English? He doesn’t seem that bad? I was getting scared when Jin kept punching Michael,
but I realized that honor in the Asian countries means the entire world to their people. That’s a good ideal to live
by. I just think they should have chosen an object more significant than a watch. I’m sure the writers will explain
its importance, though. On a side note, I really think Yunjin should keep her hair long all the time. I think she’s
a very beautiful woman and she looks better with longer hair. Relax.
So the island is split in half? Half of the survivors have
followed Jack to the caves and the other half have stayed on the beach. I still haven’t decided who I would follow?
I’m surprised that Kate chose to leave Jack. In any case, Jack had no right to criticize her. He acts like he knows
her, but he really doesn’t know a thing. Kate also has a problem. Why doesn’t she just reveal what she did? How
else would the writers make this show suspenseful? We’re in for a long ride. I also liked how Hurley followed Jack to
the caves. Hurley is Jack’s sidekick and Lost would not be as good without
Hurley. He makes me crack up and it’s a great thing to have a comedic aspect to a dramatic show.
Locke finally intervened and took Charlie’s last drugs
away from him. In return, Locke gave Charlie his guitar back. Locke was right. I would also have liked to end things on my
terms. If the Island helped Locke, I’m
sure the Island can help Charlie. We’ll see if he can keep this up. I hope he gets over his problem. And you’re rambling, so stop it.
Spotlight on…Sun (and a bit on Jin)
-
Sun is daughter to one of the richest men
in her country. Jin is a waiter who wants to marry Sun. He gives her a flower and tells her a ring is on the way.
-
Jin goes to meet Sun’s father and he
begins working for him as his apprentice. He’s finally able to afford a ring.
-
To compensate for his long hours, Jin gives
Sun a dog. At this point, they are both living in their own apartment.
-
Jin walks in one night covered with blood.
Sun confronts him and he tells her that he does whatever her father tells him to do.
-
Sun meets a woman who will help her get away
from her family undercover as an interior designer. Sun wants to leave her father and husband.
-
When Sun prepares to leave at 11:15 from the airport, she convinces herself to stay with Jin. He showed her the flower he gave to her on
that special night at the party.
Tales from the Island
Sun: He had to find out the truth. I can speak English and he’s walking around not knowing a thing. He
won’t be angry about me knowing English; he’ll be angry because I never told him before. What’s done is
done. Michael knows about me and I feel terrible for my husband’s actions. I explained to Michael that honour is important
to Jin. Without honour, he is nothing. That watch means a lot to Jin. I don’t know how long the others will continue
to tolerate him. If he continues the way he has, I don’t think that will be much longer.
Quotable Quotes
-
Locke: “Look up Charlie.”
Charlie: “You’re
not going to tell me to pray or anything…?”
Locke: “I want
you to look up.” There’s the guitar. Charlie’s smile was priceless.
-
Jack: “Kate, how did you get this way?
Just what did you do?”
Kate: “You had
your chance to know.”
-
Jack: “I’m glad you’re coming.”
Hurley: “Hey
man, I go where the boar’s at.”
-
Kate (to Jack): “Are you checking me
out?”
-
Hurley: “What’s up with you and
Kate? Are you guys going to like move to the caves together or something?”
-
Locke: “This island will give you something
you are looking for, but you have to give the island something back in return.”
-
Charlie: “If you two are done verbally
copulating, we should get a move on.” They were looking awfully close.
-
Kate: “Hey Charlie, ask Jack about his
tattoo.”
Charlie: “ Oh,
you guys have an inside joke. How absolutely wonderful for the both of you.”
Some Final Notes
-
Sayid isn’t too happy about Jack stepping
up as leader. Sayid does mean well though.
-
I’m glad Sawyer stepped up to break
up the fight. He’s changing.
-
How will the people on the beach get water?
I’m guessing there will be many hikes in the future.
-
Locke has become one of my favorite characters.
-
Will Michel keep his mouth shut about Sun
being able to speak English?
-
I jumped when Charlie split the bee hive in
half.
Another excellent episode.
Not the best though. 4 stars
