Dark. Dark. Dark. I had no idea that Sawyer had such a complicated
past. He really had it bad. Kate was right. Sawyer has no one to go home too. Does he want to leave the island? He was even
asking Jack to let him die. Wow. He has nothing to live for. Sawyer even pushed Sayid to go over the limit. He made Sayid
torture him. There’s so much to talk about so let’s get down and dirty. That
sounded weird.
Shannon has asthma and she’s having an outbreak. Boone assumes that Sawyer has her inhalers because he had seen Sawyer
with his book that had been stored in his luggage. Sawyer plays the tough guy and refuses to hand them over. Turns out, Sawyer
never had them. Josh Holloway was formidable this week. There were so many great scenes that it’s too hard to count.
I personally thought that Sawyer was a Southerner living in a trailer park who had a bear in hand 24/7. Sawyer is a con man.
He cons people into getting their money. No kidding. He was having a fling with
a married woman. Sawyer, of course, knew this. He kindly explained his financial position and he lured her into a trap. Having
fallen in love with him, this woman informs her clueless husband about the opportunity and Sawyer has them in his hands. The
original plan was to get the money and run (the oil mine was a setup). When Sawyer ended the transaction, he learns that this
couple has a son. Unable to financially tear the family, he leaves the money and runs, remembering his own past. His father
had killed his mother because she was having an affair with a man named Sawyer. Then, he committed suicide.
As the
years went on, he became like this man Sawyer. That letter he keeps reading, Sawyer wrote it. This whole story is fascinating
and perhaps the most interesting one so far. I don’t believe Sawyer’s a bad man. He’s just had a screwed-up
past. What else can you say? It was great to have Josh Holloway play alongside Evangeline Lilly in a stunning display of quality
television. Sawyer had nothing to live for anymore. Why wouldn’t he want that kiss? He wanted to be tortured. He somehow
wants to make amends, if that’s possible. He stood there willingly, as Sayid stuck those splinters into his fingers.
Just dark.
I hope this isn’t the last of Sayid. As an officer
in the Republican Guard, he was taught to extract information from his enemies, any way possible. When he left, he had some
wild smirk on his face. He penetrated into forbidden territory. It’s a territory into which he swore to never return.
He crossed that line. Sayid’s story has barely been touched and I think that a life as an officer in the Republican
Guard must be dark. There’s a reason why Sayid left that life. He gave up on fighting as well as killing. I want to know why.
I had never seen Jack get so angry. He went completely crazy.
He even punched Sawyer twice. But when Sawyer was in pain, Jack was there to save the day. I also loved Kate’s involvement.
She finally learnt the truth about Sawyer. He’s a ruthless man. Did Kate finally realize that Sawyer is similar to her?
She’s had a violent past. Does she feel a connection to Sawyer? He surely believes so. He feels a sense of closeness
with her. She fought for Sawyer when Jack had decided to torture him. I also believe that she enjoyed that lip-lock with Sawyer.
That wasn’t a kiss, but they were making out. I smell a love triangle in the air.
Claire is living on the beach. Is she a psycho? A pregnant
woman is staying on the beach. She must have a few screws loose. I liked how Charlie used his wits to convince her to follow
him to the caves. That peanut-butter thing was nice. I also laughed out loud when Charlie asked Hurley if there was any food
left. Hurley says he’s gone down one belt size. Hurley must be going through hell by eating only fruit and boar. Poor
guy.

and the husband.
-
When Sawyer goes to the family’s house
to pick up the money, he sees their child and refuses to make the deal. He drops the money and leaves.
Tales from the Island
Sawyer: It makes me sick.
Kate stood there next to me and felt some sort of pity for me. What gives her the right to feel any pity for me? I ruined
a family. I ruined a child’s parents. I became the man I despised. I became the man who killed my mother. He later killed
himself. I guess I’m not at that point yet. I needed to kiss Kate. I have nothing to live for. They’ve all figured
that crap out. What is wrong with a kiss? I saw her face. She was disgusted with me after she walked away. And Sayid had to
torture me. I had to let him do it. I had to.
Quotable Quotes
-
Jack: “You think that you can just take
something out of a suitcase and that makes it yours?”
Sawyer: “Look,
I don’t know what kind of commie share-fest you’re running in Cave Town? But, down here possession’s nine-tenths and a man’s got the right to protect his property.”
-
Hurley: “That was awesome, man. That
was like…a Jedi moment.” Best one.
-
Jack: “Get up.”
Sawyer: “Oh
you want to see who’s taller?” He can never play serious.
-
Jack: “I’m gonna kill him.”
Kate: “That’s
not going to help us get the medicine.”
Jack: “Maybe
not, but it’ll feel good.” That’s true.
-
Jack: “Give me the inhalers…now!”
Sawyer: “Hell,
I wondered when you were gonna stop asking nice.”
-
Sawyer: “That’s it, that’s
all you got, splinters? No wonder we kicked your ass in the Gulf War.”
-
Sawyer: “You know, Ali, I don’t
think you’ve tortured anyone in your life.”
Sayid: “Unfortunately
for us both, you’re wrong.”
-
Sawyer: “Well, ain’t you the brave
one? Jumping a guy while he’s napping.”
-
Hurley: “I’m a big guy. It’s
gonna be a while before you’re gonna want to give me a piggyback ride, okay?” Loved this one.
-
Kate: “I don’t buy it.”
Sawyer: “Buy
what?”
Kate: “The act.
You try too hard Sawyer. I ask you to help a woman who can’t breathe and you want me to kiss you. Nobody’s that
disgusting.”
-
Sawyer: “How’s that for a tragedy?
I became the man I was hunting. I became Sawyer.” This was also a good one.
Some Final Notes
-
Jin really gave Sun some evil stares. What’s
his problem? She’s helping someone breathe.
-
It’s typical of Shannon
to be ashamed of having asthma. It’s all about keeping up appearances.
-
Michael begged Jin to shut up. He doesn’t
want to get involved in anything else.
-
How long can Sun keep her secret a secret?
People are going to realize that she can speak English?
-
Charlie was great.
-
Locke turned everything on Sawyer. Is he trying
to stir up some trouble?
-
Kate was smart. She realized the truth behind
Sawyer’s letter. That was a great touch.
-
Sawyer has never stopped looking for the real
Sawyer.
-
Sayid’s torture technique made my fingers
hurt.
Excellent episode. 5 stars
