Two for the Road
Episode 2.20

OMG! Sweet Mother of all that is LOST. This show is just so damn good. What an ender! From the flashbacks, to Ana Lucia’s character development, to the loss of one of my favourite character, to that ending that can never be topped…this was an extremely good episode.

Ana Lucia has changed so much over the season. She started out as a spastic and butt-kicking psycho and ended up being a tormented “relatively” good person. These Ana Lucia-centric episodes, both of them, were very interesting. I can’t believe she just died on us. Who else would have been better to interact yet again with Christian? Has Christian interacted with everyone on the island? He has to stay in one place at one time.

He hired Ana Lucia to be his bodyguard during his trip to Australia. This was a soul-searching trip for her. Having just recently shot Jason, she was mentally unstable. Her mother approached her about the situation. She knew her daughter did something. She had to have killed him. Ana refuses to tell the truth. She later quits, unable to keep up with the responsibilities of being a cop. I think that was the best thing that could have happened to her: 1) Working her mother wasn’t working. Definitely not. 2) She had been damaged too much by her job.

Getting a job as a “wander” at an important wasn’t what I had in mind, but what can you do? She follows Christian because she needs to run away. Hanging out with him was an eye-opening experience for her. She got acquainted with what life is when you run away and don’t confront your problems. Christian was in bad shape. That’s what was awaiting her. She chose where she wanted to end up. She chose to get help from her mother and she was planning on going home. She never got there.

Island Ana Lucia realized she has changed. After Fake Henry attacked her, she was burning with anger. She wanted him out of the way. She just couldn’t pull the trigger. I loved how she got the gun. Yes, I was happy we got some sex. I can’t figure that scene out. Was this just something she had to get out of her system? Sawyer didn’t have a problem going along with it. He welcomed her with open arms. Was this just to get a gun? Was this just one last wild act before she realized she couldn’t be this way before?

Her scene with Michael was just powerful. I could watch it again and again. She said she couldn’t be like this anymore. She couldn’t be this Ana Lucia anymore. I had an interesting thought. Was this episode like her redemption? I felt like shooting Henry was her Judgment Day kind of thing. If she killed him, she was bad; if she didn’t, she was good. In the end though, I don’t think Ana Lucia was a bad person. She was just misunderstood.

Can I ask one more question? Why did Libby have to die? Like seriously. I loved her. The shock value was there, but COME ON. I loved Libby. I’m definitely going to miss her. She was just getting closer to poor Hurley. He’s going to be completely devastated when he finds her dead on the floor. We don’t even know how she got to the mental hospital. I want her back.

I don’t like Michael. No kidding. How can he just kill both of them? He has definitely been affected by the Others. I am almost certain that they caught him. They told him to shoot her. Now, he’s going to let Henry go. I don’t like where this go. I’m guessing he shot himself (I jumped when I saw that) to make it look like Henry did it. He didn’t kill himself I hope. That would be going too far.

Just when Jack and Locke were going to become friends, Ana Lucia goes and gives a gun to Michael. Jack is definitely going to be pissed with Locke. Who cares right? I need to see them fight on the same side. I was very proud of Jack for finding it in himself to apologize to Locke, telling him he was right about Henry. That’s all Locke wanted to hear. He was ready to fight along him to get to the Others and get Walt back. I love when our Losties are united.

Spotlight on…Ana Lucia

-          Ana Lucia’s mother comes to speak to her. She asks her where she was last night. Jason was shot last night. Somehow, her mother has a feeling Ana Lucia killed him. She wants to help her. She has to take responsibility for this. She’s a cop. Ana Lucia says she doesn’t want help. She quits.

-          Ana Lucia is a security guard at an airport. She meets Christian at a bar. He wants to take her to Sydney with him. He says he needs a bodyguard.

-          Ana wakes up in the middle of the night. Christian knocks on her door. He says it’s time to go. He goes to a woman’s house and asks to speak to his daughter. He’s paying the mortgage for her house. He starts getting violent. Ana Lucia grabs him and throws him into the car.

-          Christian tells Ana that’s she’s here for the same reason as he is: she’s running away. She wants him to come back with her. He says he can’t. He’s going to drink in a bar.

-          Ana is at the airport. She calls her mom. She says she went away as far as she could. Ana wants to come home. Her mom will be waiting for her.

Tales from the Island

Ana Lucia: I couldn’t kill him. I stood there with the gun in my hand and I just couldn’t pull the trigger. I can’t do this anymore. I can’t be this person anymore. I can’t be holding a gun anymore. I don’t want to be this person anymore. Like earlier today, I wrestled Sawyer to the ground. We had sex right there. What kind of person does that? I made him swear he couldn’t tell anyone. It doesn’t even matter. I don’t care. It was so sleazy. That’s not me. At least I don’t want it to be. I want this over. Michael’s in the other room now. I don’t know if he’s planning on getting up. I just can’t get rid of the gun out of my hand. Why can’t I?

Quotable Quotes

-          Henry: “You’re the killer Ana Lucia.” Shut up.

-          Locke (after seeing Henry attack Ana): “Guess he decided to start talking.”

-          Ana Lucia: “I don’t think parents and their kids should work together. Too many issues.”

Christian: “I’ll drink to that.”

-          Libby: “What happened?”

Ana Lucia: “I cut myself shaving.”

-          Henry: “If you’ve come to apologize, I forgive you for hitting me with your crutch. I’m so glad that my head didn’t break it.”

-          Jack (about the Others): “You think they’re on the honour system?”

-          Sawyer: “Was Little Red Riding Hood following the Big Bad Wolf back to his stash o’ guns?”

-          Sawyer (to Ana): “Don’t you wanna have my phone number?”

-          Michael: “As soon as I get my strength back, I will take us there. And we are gonna get my son back.”

-          Locke: “Jack, there’s something I need to tell you.” It’s a bit too late.

Some Final Notes

-          Hurley tried organizing a picnic for Libby. Turns out he couldn’t find the beach. He didn’t get blankets and he didn’t get drinks. He’s going to blame himself.

-          Michael says he followed the Others to their camp. They supposedly live in tents and they wear ragged clothes. He said they have their own hatch. I don’t buy it. Kate found the dirty clothes. Something’s going on.

-          I freaked when Henry jumped Ana. Why wasn’t she doing anything to fight him? He seems so weak.

-          I like how Christian and Ana used fake names. She called him “Tom” and he called her “Sarah.”

-          It felt like ages since Libby and Ana spoke. Libby told her to not do anything stupid. That’s the last they spoke.

-          Henry told Locke that he attacked Ana because she wasn’t one of the good ones. He tells her that Goodwin tried changing her, but they didn’t think he could.

-          Locke is supposedly one of the good ones.

-          Henry says he was sent here. He was coming to get Locke. I don’t buy that garbage. He was trying to win Locke over.

-          So Christian has a daughter in Australia? Interesting.

-          Sawyer called Ana “Muchacha” and Locke “Brutus.”

-          Why did Locke cover for Ana? Why didn’t he just tell Jack that she got jumped?

-          This show rocks.

Amazing. 5 stars
