Best. Episode. Of. The. Season. I was watching this episode
with my brother and we were both freaking out at how good this episode was. I was on edge throughout the whole episode. Like
all Locke-centric episodes, this one was fantastic. And we even got a tremendously good cliffhanger.
The writers kind of forgot about that Locke. Throughout all of season 3, they forgot about the faith-driven psychopath who never wants to leave
the island, who needs faith to survive. He’s been a hero for the Losties coming up with the idea to go after Jack and
to try and save all their friends. As soon though as he learnt there was a submarine, he wasn’t interested in saving
Jack; he wanted to destroy the sub. Think what you will about Locke, but he has his reasons. Even if they are a bit crazy.
He’s scared to leave the island. This has been his
motivation all this time. If he leaves the island, he’s back in a wheelchair. To tell you the truth though, I don’t
think he’ll go back to being paralyzed. I don’t think the island works that way. Rose was going through the same
thing last season. It’s the fear of returning to a life of disease and pain. No one wants it.
Did I find Locke’s accident worthy of all the hype?
Definitely. I was more interested with who pushed him off the window. When his father ran right for him, I just jumped out
of my seat. I almost hit the flower pot next to me. It was fast, surprising and
out of nowhere. Exactly what I wanted. Are we to assume that it’s possible that Locke could survive an eight-story fall
on his back? That was a bit out there, but it’s all about fate and how Locke was maybe destined to survive the accident.
Was he really destined to land on the island though?
Does the island heal only those who believe in its great
power? Is that why Ben isn’t being healed as fast? Locke mentions a few times how Ben doesn’t appreciate the island,
how he’s cheating with his electricity and food in his fridge. This is just part of Locke’s psychology. The Others
don’t deserve the island; Locke does. For that reason, he’s not leaving this place.
What’s this whole talk about the box? Ben says that
in that box, everything that you will ever want is in there. He says it’s beautiful. Now, where is this box? What does
it do? Is it something important? Ben said Locke’s dad came out of it. He’s the “Man form Tallahassee.” Isn’t
he? I’m going to assume that this whole thing was coincidence. How was Anthony Cooper brought to the island though?
How did Ben know that he was his father? Moreover, Locke hasn’t seen his father since the accident. How is he going
to treat his father now? It ain’t going to be pretty.
Was I the only one who was disappointed with Jack? He has
always been the one talking about “live together, die alone” crap and now he decided to take off without any of
his friends. Who would think like that? Did Jack feel abandoned by Kate? Is that why he’s planning on just leaving?
He should have learnt by now that there’s no finding the island. After what happened with Desmond, he should have learnt
that it’s going to be hard to find the island again. I’m glad the sub blew up
How is he going to face Kate again? He just left her in that
room. He hasn’t changed; he’s just cooperating with the Others. Kate fought past all that trouble so she could
get back to him. The first thing she said when she got back to camp is “we can’t leave Jack behind.” Is Jack so ignorant he can’t see the sacrifice she’s made for his ungrateful
ass? Sorry, I happen to be really angry right now.
The Others have really nice houses. They have fridges, electricity,
food, furniture…even pianos. They’re living the good life. Again, we were told that most people were recruited.
Ben says he was one of the few who was born on the island. If you guys noticed, the man who un-cuffed Locke was the Mittlos
recruiter who first approached Juliet in her flashback. He’s on the island too.
Spotlight on…Locke
-
Locke is being an interviewed
by a government worker. She is trying to evaluate whether the government still needs to pay for Locke’s cost of living.
He’s been suffering from psychological problems. He cannot work. He has stopped seeing his therapist. She tells him
to re-apply. He doesn’t need help if he’s not seeing his therapist.
-
Locke is eating alone in his
room. This man Peter Talbot comes to speak to him. He says his mom fell in love with a man named Andy Seward. He checked out
the guy. He learnt Locke donated one of his kidneys to him. He wants to know about the guy. Locke says he can’t help
him.
-
Locke finds his father. He’s
shopping for flowers. He realizes that his father is going to con the woman. He wants him to break it off. Anthony agrees
to do so.
-
Two detectives approach Locke.
They enquire about a man named Peter Talbot. He’s dead.
-
Locke asks his father if he
killed Peter. He says he didn’t do it. His father reveals Peter’s mother called off the wedding. She’s too
heartbroken. Locke doesn’t believe him. He gets up to call her and his father pushes him out of the window.
-
The detectives tell Locke that
his father has disappeared. He’s paralyzed on a hospital bed. The nurse wants him to get into a wheelchair. He doesn’t
want to. He finally gets into it. Everything has changed.
Tales from the Island
Locke: I have to destroy
the submarine. I can’t leave this island. I was talking with Ben. He knows how I got into my wheelchair. He should know
then that there’s no way I’m getting back into that chair. This island has done marvelous things for me. It has
kept me alive. It’s given me a second chance. I know Jack’s going to be angry and I know everyone will hate me
for this. I just can’t let this happen.
Quotable Quotes
-
Locke: “This is gonna
be more complicated than we thought.
-
Sayid: “Kate, what are
you exactly saying? We should just go in and shoot everyone.”
-
Peter: “How many kidneys
do you have?” Don’t say that.
-
Locke: “I’m not
looking for Jack. I’m looking for the submarine.”
-
Ben: “I want you to get
me the man from Tallahassee.”
-
Ben (to Locke): “You of all people should understand what it’s like to want some dignity.”
-
Ben (about Locke’s accident): “Tell me John. How did it feel like?” How will it feel like when he
kills you?
-
Jack (to Kate): “I will come back for you soon.”
-
Locke (to Ben): “You got anything to eat.” I laughed.
-
Locke: “Where do you get
electricity from?”
Ben: “We have
two big hamsters running on two big wheels in our secret basement.” This was surprisingly funny.
-
Ben: “Why do you think
you deserve to be on this island more than I do?”
Locke: “Because
you’re in a wheelchair and I’m not.” Another good one.
-
Ben: “There you come striding
out of the jungle John and you make my dream come true.”
Some Final Notes
-
By blowing up the sub, Locke
satisfied Ben. He didn’t want to lose the sub.
-
I really thought Jack had been
compromised. I thought they brainwashed him. Why was he acting all chummy-chummy with Zeke and Juliet? That was a bit too
weird.
-
Danielle disappeared and went
right for Alex. She didn’t dare speak to her.
-
Sayid did though. He told her
that he knows her mom. Alex is going to rescue them all. You’ll see.
-
I didn’t know Jack played
piano.
-
I felt weirded out when Ben
started reciting all of Locke’s past. How do they know so much on everyone?
-
Zeke said he didn’t think
he’s see Kate again. I guess he was wrong.
-
Jack said that the kids are
all safe. How can he leave them there?
-
Juliet thanked Ben for keeping
his promise. Is that the first time he’s ever done something like that?
-
What’s going to happen
to Kate and Sayid? Are they going to get let go?
-
What’s Locke’s father
doing on the island? We’ll find out soon I hope.
Loved it. 5 stars.
