Someone’s been naughty. All the fans seemed to have
so much respect for Sun’s character and she turns out to be nothing but a liar. I felt disappointed—shocked even.
Sayid also surprised me. I never expected him to risk the couple’s life. I’m glad Jin showed him who is boss.
The Others keep pissing me off. Sawyer and Kate almost got free. This is really shaping up to be a good season.
Although the glass ballerina appeared only in one scene in
the episode, it proved to be significant on many occasions. First off, it was Sun’s initiation into a life of deception
and lies. As a child, she learnt how to be a liar. She lies to protect herself. She lies once again when she keeps her affair
with Jae under wraps. Also, the shattering of the ballerina can also be interpreted as foreshadowing Jae’s death. He
died the same way. He fell and shattered any hope of living his life with Sun. He really wanted her. I’m guessing it’s hard to die knowing you’ve never accomplished what you’ve been aiming for.
Although we didn’t truly see a new side to Jin, Sun was truly the heart of the episode. It just goes to show that looks
can really be deceiving. Is the baby really Jin’s? Hasn’t Jin realized by now that his wife has betrayed him one
time too many? She lied to help Sayid. She disregarded her husband’s concern for her safety. I don’t see this
relationship going on. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a darker side to Sun. The first time was made clear
when she tried poisoning her husband. Although she had good intentions, it was inexcusable.
Sayid went through a re-image. It was as if he changed in
the course of an hour. His plan to me sounded ruthless. He was ready to kill anyone who dared to show their face on the dock.
Fate sure has a way of giving people second chances. Fate, in this show, controls everything.
Sayid handing Jin the gun without hesitation I though was mature and classy. Sayid realized he crossed the line. He realized
he was potentially going to risk Sun’s life. He understood that Jin had one intention: saving his wife. He also got
over his individualistic attitude and informed Jin that he would take any of his opinions into consideration. That was nice.
Sawyer and Kate almost escaped. I’m not sure if Sawyer
purposely failed to escape or whether he truly was outnumbered. To me, it seemed as if he wanted to frighten them. I was so
aggravated when Kate just stood there and watched. She’s a freakin’ fugitive.
She’s proven on countless occasions that she’s able to fight. That irritated me. I’m glad they finally got
around to kissing though. Sawyer’s excuse was that Kate just looked too cute. That she was.
The Others continue to perplex me. If anyone wants to keep count on how many times you’ll read that sentence during the season, be my guest.
I highly doubt they need Sawyer and Kate to mover around some pointless boulders. There’s something going on. It has
to do with manipulation. They obviously manipulated Sawyer. They made sure Kate wore the dress to drive Sawyer crazy. They
know what they’re doing. Also, Ben got closer to Jack. Jack went hysterical when he heard the Red Sox had won the Championships.
He couldn’t believe it. Every time I look at Ben, I feel like hitting him. Is
it just me or do you all feel that tingle of hatred?
Spotlight on…Sun/Jin
-
Sun (as a child) breaks a glass ballerina.
Her father confronts her about it. She says the maid did it. Mr. Paik says he will have to fire her. She agrees.
-
Sun is sleeping with Jae. He says he doesn’t
want to share her anymore. Her father walks in on them.
-
Mr. Paik wants Jin to pay Jae a visit. He
wants Jae dead. Sun’s father doesn’t tell Jin the real reason. For the first time, he calls Jin, “son.”
-
Jin comes home to eat supper with Sun. He
talks about the conversation he had with her father. She doesn’t want him to keep working for her father. In the middle
of his supper, he leaves to go see Jae.
-
Jin attacks Jae. He’s about to shoot
him. He can’t. Jin tells him to leave the country. He doesn’t want to hear of him again. When Jin is about to
leave, Jae lands on the car. He committed suicide with the necklace he gave Sun wrapped around his hand.
-
Sun goes to Jae’s funeral service. Her
father sees her there. He tells her to go back to her husband. He also says he has no plans on telling Jin anything about
the affair.
Tales from the Island
Sun: I don’t know
how much longer I can lie to him. I made a mistake today. I decided to disrespect my husband so I can side with Sayid. The
memories from my affair with Jae still haunt me. Should I tell Jin the truth? What can he do about it? This is a mistake I
have to live with. I’m just glad I got away safely. Jin is so happy to have me safe. Also, he’s glad to have the
child safe and warm. This baby will make him so happy. I want to make him happy. He deserves so much. I see where his true
intentions lie. He is always concerned with my safety. He is the man I love. He has to be the man I love. I told myself this
secret was going to stay under wraps. That is what is going to happen.
Quotable Quotes
-
Pickett: “If you try to run off, you're gonna get shocked...”
Sawyer: “Shot?!?! What? We don't even get a warning?”
-
Kate (about Sawyer kissing her): “What the hell were you thinking?”
Sawyer: “I couldn't help myself. You just looked so damn cute swinging that
pick axe.”
-
Ben (to Jack): “Thatīs home
Jack. Right there on the other side of that glass. If you listen to me, if you trust me, if you do what I tell you when the
time comes, Iīll take you there. I will take you home.”
-
Ben: (to Jack) “You
know what's crazy, Jack? A week ago you and I were exactly in the opposite situation. I was the one locked up and you were
the one coming in for visits.” I wish it were still like that.
-
Sayid: “Sun, if by chance they get passed us, there's another gun. It's inside
the blue tarp beneath the galley counter.”
Sun: “If they get
passed you, that means my husband is dead and I won't care anymore.”
Sayid:
“As I said, the gun is inside the tarp.” I’ve never though about it, but is Sun suicidal too?
-
Sun: “Why are you lying to me, Sayid?”
Sayid: “And what would you know about lying, Sun?” Quite a bit.
-
Sawyer: “Havin' fun yet, Freckles?”
Kate: “Quit staring at my ass.”
Sawyer: “Well
give me something else to stare at!”
-
Sawyer: “You taste like strawberries.”
Kate: “You taste like fish biscuits.”
Some Final Notes
-
Why has Alex gone rogue? Why is she running
around in the jungle? What did she do that is keeping her in hiding?
-
Ben says he’s lived on the island his
whole life.
-
It was fun to watch Sawyer spill all the water
in Juliet’s bottle on the ground. He’s telling them that they don’t scare him.
-
According to Ben, the Losties have been on the island for 69 days.
-
It was fun watching Ben summarize what’s
happened in the real world during this time. The world has moved on.
-
It was hysterical when Sawyer smirked after
Denny (the ugly guard) told Kate to take off the dress if she wanted to. That was fun.
-
That food buzzer in Sawyer’s cage is
annoying. That sure will get you up in the morning.
-
Colleen (Trixie from Deadwood) was killed by Sun. I honestly couldn’t care.
-
I always thought Tom (Zeke) had a high position.
He seems to be getting bossed around by everyone.
-
Kate learned Sawyer’s real name.
-
The Others have the boat now. Great.
Very good. 3 stars
