This could have been a “greatest hit” for me
too if only they would have killed Charlie. They have been hyping this all season long and now they decide to pull something
like this. SERIOUSLY! I’ve never liked Charlie and I still don’t like Charlie. Why go through his “top 5
hits” if he wasn’t going to die? The episode would have just been splendid.
It’s not that I like death. I don’t. Suuuuuure. But I just don’t see how people are not more upset. To me, it feels like the writers played me.
To tell you the truth, it felt like this was Charlie’s last episode. I guess this just meant it was his last flashback
episode. That could be it.
BUT, this was Charlie’s best episode. As for Dominic
Monaghan, he was very impressive. I have to admit, if this were to be Charlie’s last episode, I would have admitted
that he would have gone out in class. Those flashbacks just worked for me. Charlie is the one person who I would think would
write down his five best moments. There’s something about his character.
They just really worked:
- “The first time I heard myself on the radio:” This one just made me happy. For a singer,
this is one of the best times of their lives.
- “Dad teaching me to swim at Butlin’s:” I think every kid remembers a moment
like this. Children trust their parents. Charlie thought his father would catch him, but it was that thought that helped him
jump off.
- “The Christmas Liam gave me the ring:” For a guy like Charlie, to get recognized the
way he did by his brother was just important. He was finally accepted by his brother as a Pace man.
- “Woman outside
Covent Garden calls me
a hero:” This one is self-explanatory.
He’s
been down on himself all this time. To be called a hero…excellent.
- “The night I met you:” Obviously.
I loved all the Charlie good-byes. They were all really well done. I loved his farewell. It worked for me. I loved
the fact that he left the little guy the ring. To me, that truly said a lot as he truly considers him his son. He passed on
the Pace ring. I cracked up though during the Hurley scene. That’s such a mean thing to say to Hurley, but it was an
easy way for him to get out of the situation. That might have been slightly low.
I kind of wanted him to tell her the truth. I don’t want Claire to keep on wondering. Sadly, I don’t think he’ll
be dying any time soon.
The one thing I’ll miss if Charlie dies is the relationship
with Desmond. I have enjoyed the heck out of these two characters growing off each other. The final scene on the boat was
beautiful. I loved how Charlie knocked out Desmond in order to prevent him from taking his spot. That scene though shows where
Desmond is right now in his life; he doesn’t want to keep fighting on. He doesn’t care about Penny anymore. But
Charlie wanted him to keep fighting for love. I’m glad.
I’m really happy though that Jack finally has a plan.
If he hadn’t come up with one, I would have “suke-ied” every scene he was in. But can this thing really
work? I mean, why do they have Bernard shooting? It would make most sense to have Kate and Sawyer take a shot rather than
Bernard. I’m assuming though that those two are not expendable…for the
show and the island. It would crush me too.
And what the heck does Desmond’s flashback mean? Claire
and Aaron are going to leave the island safely? I have a feeling this was just something to get Charlie out in the water.
I know that’s a bit much for Desmond, but I guess desperate times call for desperate measures. Is this going to happen
in the finale? If so, what’s going to happen for the next three seasons? I’m confused.
Spotlight on…Charlie
-
Moment #5: Charlie’s band’s car
is stuck in the middle of nowhere in pouring rain. As he argues with his brother, he hears his song on the radio for the first
time.
-
Moment #4: Young Charlie is too scared to
jump into a pool. He makes his father promise to catch him. He doesn’t. But Charlie has finally learnt how to swim.

Christmas and gives him their father’s ring. At first, Charlie cannot accept it. But his brother tells him to wear it.

Quotable Quotes
- Charlie: “Anyone want to take a guess what Jack is going to show us?”
Hurley:
“I don’t know. Stuff.”
- Desmond: "I'm sorry, brother. But this time... this time, you have to die." That’s
pretty grim.
- Charlie: "It's the five best moments in my sorry excuse for a life. Greatest hits."
I loved this one.
- Charlie: "So. First plane crash?"
Claire: "What gave it away?"
Charlie:
"I can always spot the newbies." Another good one.
-
Jack: "I'll give you my word that if we don't kill everyone who is going to show up here in about an hour, it won't matter where
Bernard is."
-
Sayid: "What are you more concerned with, killing the Others or getting our people off this island? This afternoon you said you
were our leader. It's time for you to act like one. Lead them to the radio tower, Jack. And then take us all home." I loved
this one.
-
Charlie: "I'll do it. I'll swim down, flip that bloody switch, swim back up. Piece of cake." Is it that easy?
-
Naomi: "No, not that. The crash. You're the dead rock star. They made a big deal out of you when they found plane. Huge memorial
service, new album--" That’s really nice.
-
Jack: “We’re going to blow them
all up to hell.” WOOOO-HOOOO. I might have liked Jack here.
Some Final Notes
-
I felt bad for poor Karl. He went all this
way for no reason. Is he going to fight with the Losties? And why was he hiding
away from Ben?
-
“The Looking Glass” has been introduced.
Finally the cable mystery has been solved. Who are those two women? And how did Sayid have those blueprints?
-
I wanted that DS ring. It stands for Dextor
Stratton. That’s where they got the name Drive Shaft from.
-
Finally we figured out why Danielle was getting
bombs from the Black Rock. We’re FINALLY getting answers.
-
Naomi said everyone made a big deal about
Charlie’s death. Why does he want to die then? He can go back.
-
The Others are jamming the frequencies using
The Looking Glass.
-
Where was the blinking yellow light?
-
Rose and Bernard were back. Bernard has a
big part now.
-
I got scared when Ben gave Alex the gun back.
-
I hated Ben’s policy: take the women
and kill the men. He really needs to get what’s coming to him.
-
Sayid’s Nadia was back. This time, she
was in Britain in Charley’s flashback.
-
I enjoyed when Aaron cracked a smile when
he saw Hurley.
-
Do we trust Juliet saying she’s never
been underground?
-
Who are those women in the underwater hatch?
It would
have been perfect if it weren’t for minor details. 4 stars?
