March 26th: Is America Smarter than a Fifth Grader?

There’s a few things about this show that have left me uneasy. For starters I can’t understand how it’s pulling in the ratings it is. That’s ridiculous. It shares the same time slot as Ugly Betty and yet it’s neck and neck with it. That’s absolutely ridiculous and it kills me that Fox has another uninspired and lame hit on their hands. Do you understand that? I don’t.

Yeah, it might be funny for us to watch complete fools not get the questions they’re being asked. It’s just frustrating to watch the deserving shows fall down the drain because Are you Smart than a Fifth Grade? is its competition. I mean give me a break. If you’re going to pick a show to watch, find something else. The concept is so unappealing I rolled my eyes when I saw it.

I mean come on. I don’t know what’s more embarrassing: getting a kick out of people not knowing their ABCs or not knowing their ABCs themselves. Should we really be proud of the fact that we don’t know what a fifth grader knows?

It’s not only this show. It’s many shows that has made me impatient. Like if you’re going to watch American Idol, for God’s sake’s, vote for the best one. How is Sanjaya still in the mix? I’ve seen him perform a few times and he’s horrendous. It’s so bad I want to rip my eyes out. And I know that he’s going to be sticking around for a while.

Then there’s a show like America’s Next Top Model. You know what, the concept is great and it was something new when it premiered. But now it’s getting ridiculous. They constantly have the same quota to fill: we need more bitches. Is that a good way to produce television shows? I applaud the show’s attempt to give a chance to less fortunate girl to succeed, but make sure the deserving ones make it on the show. Don’t just give the spot to the mean girls just because we’re going to tune in and watch them.

And you know what, I’ll be blunt. I love the shows that have a lot of sex: Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Nip/Tuck…We all do. Yeah, if you look behind the sex they’re still good, but we all know that most of us joined a show like Nip/Tuck because it was the most provocative show on television.

I guess I’m still feeling the pain of Veronica Mars almost being cancelled. It’s hard you know? To have one of the best shows on television (a quality one) to be cancelled because of low ratings is not something a fan wants to see. Add the declining numbers of Lost and you’ve got yourself a whole disaster. These two shows are smart and creative and great. And they are just in a mess.

I’m not criticizing all of your opinions is shows. I’m just trying to tell you to check out the good shows before you settle for a show like Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader, or America’s Next Top Model. Yeah, they might be fun, but they’re not the classics.
