Normal is the Watchword
Episode 2.1

Okay, I can see where we’re going with this. I kind of like it. Of course, it wasn’t as great as last season’s finale, but it sure did give us some great things to talk about: LoVe is dead and buried, Logan might have killed Felix, Veronica is dating Duncan and we have a brand new intriguing mystery. Meg seems to have died. Why? I loved Meg. There’s also a lot of stuff going on in Neptune. Let’s see what’s up.

First off, Logan was the guy at Veronica’s door. Big deal. Honestly, it really pisses me off that Logan keeps finding himself in trouble. Just grow up already. He’s good for Veronica and Veronica is good for him. I can understand his anger and frustration. That’s no excuse. It’s time he grows up. I like the way the writers wrote the break-up scene. It was fitting to have Logan completely lose it. His speech to Veronica makes the audience really wonder what his life must be like. Sure, he has all the money he’ll ever need, but he isn’t happy: his father has been arrested, he lost his best friend and girlfriend, half of Neptune hates him, and like he said, the only person he still loves is dumping him. That should make Veronica feel like crap. Funny thing: I don’t think it does. I can also understand Veronica’s frustration. I can understand why she doesn’t want to die. I truly do.

Besides, Logan has his hands full with Mrs. Casablancas. Yes, I do love her with a passion. I miss Charisma Carpenter and watching her on screen certainly brought some good memories from the Buffy years. I find it weird sleeping with your friends’ step mom. Borderline on the soap opera. Speaking of the Casablancas, I’m glad Dick and Cassidy have become part of the cast. Dick makes me laugh every time I see him. I love watching him tease Veronica and vice versa.

After Aaron Echolls’ arrest, the media coverage got even crazier. Keith was pressured into writing a book called “Big murder, small town.” That sounds cliché. Anyways, that’s not Keith’s style. I can understand that. But Veronica stated the facts: Liane Mars (the you-know-what) stole fifty-thousand dollars from Keith’s briefcase and Veronica has to go to college next season. Life sure does suck, but if there’s one person that rocks on this show, it’s Keith. I’m glad he stayed with Wallace’s mom. Can you imagine if they got married?

Weevil’s gang was back to cause some trouble. Honestly, I don’t believe Logan killed Felix. Not only does it seem too obvious to me, but Logan would never do such a thing. He is a violent man, but he is not a killer. Now, there’s also the argument that he was drunk…and suicidal. I know Weevil isn’t so convinced now that Logan is the killer. I’m glad he didn’t leave Veronica at the gas station. All the tattoos and badass attitude aside, Weevil is a gentleman. A scary gentleman, but a gentleman nonetheless.

The drug-testing storyline was quickly wrapped up, but it was necessary: 1) It brought Veronica back into the detective life. That’s where we want her to be. 2) She realized she became an 09er again. We know that’s not what she wants. 3) She had to try and get closer to Meg. I just found it too “easy” to have the owners of the drug-testing facility sabotage the school’s best players just so their children can replace them. This is Neptune, so I’ll let that slide.

Do I like Veronica with Duncan? Probably not. He does love her though. I’m also guessing he was glad when he found out that Veronica wasn’t his biological sister. That must have helped. Thanks to the flashbacks, we saw exactly how it went down. Duncan kept visiting Veronica every day at work. And every day, she would spend more time with him. It came to the point where she fell for him. I want to know what was written in that fortune cookie. It must have been some sweet love-line. Did I guess right?

The Bus Crash Files

-          The school bus fell over the cliff. Among the known victims: Meg and Miss Dumas, the new journalism teacher.

Quotable Quotes

-          Veronica (voice-over): “Suffice to say I’ve got plenty of material for any back-to-school-what-I-did-this-summer essay.”

-          Veronica (voice-over): “Here it is. Senior year. Fresh start. Veronica, try not to screw it up this time.”

-          Veronica: “This is Neptune. Nothing happens accidentally.” Really?

-          Veronica (to Wallace): “I can’t believe you worked here for a year and you still don’t know the file cabinet’s make and model.”

-          Wallace: “I was wondering where we were drawing the ethical line this year.”

-          Veronica: “I should go. Because my dad is probably watching us through a telescope.”
Logan: “Then he's probably impressed with your virtue.”
Veronica: “And that telescope is mounted on a rifle.”

-          Keith: “Sometimes, pinching your nipples might work.”

-          Dick: “Miss Dumb-ass.”

Miss Dumas: “It’s Dumas Dick.”

Dick: “Well my name is pronounced Richard and it stinks back here. I think someone died.”

-          Veronica (voice-over): “The way she’s acting it’s as if I seduced Duncan on their wedding day.”

-          Logan: “Fun? Fun? My mom is dead. My girlfriend is dead. My dad is a murderer. And the only person I still care about is dumping me! You think I'm having fun?” Great one.

Some Final Notes

-          I wasn’t a huge fan of having Veronica work at a café. It was important for her character however. She’s trying to move on from all of this. She wants to move on from Lilly as well as her miserable year last year.

-          Logan looked terrible at Veronica’s door. He really got beaten up bad.

-          Leo picking Logan up must have been rough for Veronica. What do you say in that situation? “Ya, I dumped you for a spoiled drunken rich kid.”

-          How weird was it seeing the class reject Butters be Principal Clemmons’ son. Veronica better be nice to him.

-          Keith is always there to the rescue. When Logan has his violent outbreak, Keith comes running in and wrestles Logan to the wall.

-          Woody Goodman owns a baseball team and is now running for mayor. Who does he think he is? A millionaire and a celebrity?

-          I liked watching Veronica meet Terrence Cook. What was that argument he had with Woody?

-          I forgot about Gia, Woody’s daughter. He signed her up in a private school because he wants her to fit in. She seems really nice.

-          Meg was acting McBitchy when she told her teacher that everyone was on the bus when Veronica really wasn’t. Now she’s dead. Great.

-          Did Lilly really save Veronica? I really hope not. That would be too sci-fi/fantasy for me. I can expect it on Alias, not on Veronica Mars.

-          Duncan is living in the presidential suite of the Neptune Grand. Is that really fair?

-          Who is Tessa Thompson from the opening credits?

There were a lot of things going on, but I am now hooked for the rest of the season. That’s for sure. I’ll give it 4 stars.
