Excellent. This is why I love the three-mysteries-per-season
idea. We have three finales in one season. We have a brand new mystery now and I am very giddy. I’m going to miss Dean
O’Dell, but his death is sure going to bring some nice conspiracies to Hearst College. As far as the rape mystery goes, it wrapped up well even if the story was
underwhelming.
It’s not that the idea of the rape mysteries was bad;
it was the execution that was the problem. Many fans have complained about this and I strongly agree. If the writers were
only dedicating nine episodes to the rapes, why focus a big part of the episodes on irrelevant self-encamped plotlines. It
sounds absurd to me. Disregarding this, the episode rocked from beginning to end. Doing the “two days earlier”
thing was very smart. It immediately grabs the audience’s attention and keeps them hooked for the whole hour. I am hooked no matter what, but that’s just me.
Before we focus on the rapes, I have to rant a bit about
LoVe. Ok, not much ranting, but just a bit. Why is it over? Why? LoVe was one of
the best parts of the show and I hope viewers won’t get turned off by this. I’m sure it’s not over, but
it is frustrating. Veronica has been acting like a bitch lately. She criticizes a lot. She insults a lot. Logan was absolutely right to call it quits. Why would he want to be in a relationship where 1) his girlfriend doesn’t
need him, 2) his girlfriend keeps pointing out some flaw he has and 3) he constantly feels like a disappointment. This is
not a relationship. Logan was absolutely right to make this clear. He can’t stand on the sidelines
and watch as his girlfriend keeps pushing him aside.
What further aggravated me was when Veronica first sees Logan and Dick and acts like everything is okay. How can she do that? She says
the break-up was unexpected. Oh please! She has been pushing him away for the longest
time. As good as she might be at judging human character, she can sometimes be very ignorant. That said, the scene in the
shower was incredible. It was believable. Although she never shows it, Veronica truly does love Logan. When she had broken up with Duncan, she didn’t act the same way. When she broke up with Logan, she was affected. She was spaced out for most of the time and even told her friends about the break-up.
Veronica finally got the support she needed from her friends.
Mac was finally back. I jumped of joy when I saw her in the opening scene. Like
Billie Doux noticed, Veronica has her own Scooby Gang. I just wish Parker can get added to the mix. After all, it’s
because of Parker that Veronica didn’t get raped. Parker gave her the rape whistle. Parker heard her cry for help. I
love Parker.
Mercer and Moe were the culprits. A lot of people were hinting
that Moe was involved 1) because he kept popping up and 2) because he drove the get-home-safe vehicle. I was completely shocked
to find out that Mercer was the actual rapist. That was a freaky surprise. He says he’s just in for the sex; he doesn’t
want to have to have a conversation with a girl he’ll never see again. I still don’t understand what happened
in Mexico? Did Moe cause the fire to get Mercer out of there so he can get back to the
college? Mercer had also raped the two girls back in season two? Why haven’t we seen them though? There are some holes,
but all in all, it was great.
Hearst Rape Files
-
Mercer turned out to be the rapist. Moe was
his set-up guy. Moe would drug the women then contact Mercer to come rape them. Moe would make sure Mercer had airtight alibis.
The rest would play out as we have come to know. Mercer would rape the girls and shave their heads. Case Closed.
Quotable Quotes
-
Veronica: “So the boy can still smile.
Seems like a week since I’ve last seen his teeth.”
-
Logan: “I just can’t take feeling like a disappointment anymore.”
-
O’Dell: “I’m going to be
bored. I might have to speak with my children.”
-
Piz: “Hey guys, what’s the word?
Is it ‘avuncular’?” Where did he get that from? I couldn’t help but laugh looking at Mac’s face
when she heard him say this.
-
Tim: “Are we working together now? Are
we Starsky and Butch?”
Veronica: “Cagney
and Pasty.”
-
Mac (about
going to the Pi Sig party): “Are you freaking kidding me? The Pi Sig mega apocalypse? Hump the furniture, party
back to the Stone Age, 50-key Bachanallia?”
Veronica: “Sound
like fun, huh?”
Mac: “Will they
let me in? I think the glitter has fallen from my porn tube top.” Classic line.
-
Veronica (to
Chip’s girlfriend): “If it turns red, he might try and rape you. If it doesn’t turn red, he still might
be able to rape you?”
Some Final Notes
-
The Lilith House float was hysterical. They
can be such a pain sometimes. They have to shove it in everyone’s faces that they won.
-
I loved watching Dick stick his butt out to
their float. Classic Dick.
-
The LoVe break-up scene was hard. You knew
it was coming and it finally did. Should we call this closure?
-
How does the Dean get a flat screen tv and
high-def cable? I should be a dean.
-
I’m glad Veronica decided to tell Mac
and Wallace about the break-up. Veronica has been excluding her friends lately. I’m glad they’re not dead to her.
-
When Veronica comes back from school, Keith
puts on a Chinese man’s accent. Priceless.
-
The feminists are deadly. O’Dell set
himself up for that though. He became a real jack-ass. Just because a school sponsor threatened to end his alliance with the
school, that’s no reason to keep the Greek system alive.
-
Chris Lowell has turned out to be a great
addition to the cast. When he decided to dance to distract the guy dancing with a drunken girl, I started cracking up.
-
How funny was it to watch Tim Foyle spaz at
his girlfriend at the party? That guy was a total loser.
-
I’m glad Keith was the one to find Mercer.
-
Logan was up to his old self getting arrested to kick Mercer’s ass.
Excellent capper to an
underwhelming mystery. The writers did the absolute best they could. It was excellent and a definite watercooler episode.
