This was both a great episode for returning fans and newcomers.
There are a lot of things that have been cleared up and it feels great to know what’s going on again. I’m joking. I always knew where we were at. I would never disappoint my readers like that. I’m glad
that the writers had attempted to simplify this complicated story and J.J. Abrams was the only one who could write this episode.
And I’m glad he did.
I loved all the clips from the previous episodes. These were
some of the best moments from the season and it was great to see them all pieced together. I never truly appreciated all of
Sydney’s
aliases until watching them all together. The crew of Alias is extremely talented and I hope there’s more to come. Using
the interrogation as a way to introduce and re-explain the story so far was a fantastic and effective move. Jennifer Garner
beautifully expressed Sydney’s pain. We sensed the exhaustion with her life and we know that she’s
finally fed up. She struggled through the questions as if she herself finally realized how convoluted her life is. She even
had to dodge accusations against her father and herself. Agent Kendall is an aggravating man. I like him
though. Terry O’Quinn was able to depict the personality of a stuck-up FBI agent. To a stranger, Sydney’s life seems fantastic, out of this world. You might even consider it ridiculous. It’s a job that has
to be done and that’s why she wakes up in the morning. She’s been through the worst of times, but she won’t
give up.
I really liked how Vaughn came up with the way to solve this
whole problem. He really does deserve more credit. Anyways, using the second part of the prophecy, Vaughn deduced that Sydney must travel to Italy and climb Mt. Subasio.
The second paragraph states:
“This woman, without pretense, will have had her effect never having seen the beauty of my sky behind Mt. Subasio. Perhaps a single glance would have quelled her fire.”
This all makes sense. But
could all this have been predetermined? Vaughn did have a point though. If the FBI is to take everything literally, then they
would have to consider this line. I’m surprised that Jack didn’t catch that. I found the escape to be a bit sloppy
though. They should have knocked those security guards out. It would have given Sydney some
sort of a chance to escape. The car-escape scenes were great. I dropped to the floor when Sydney decided to drive into the water. My heart was pounding when she just stood in the sinking car. I was yelling at
my television set. Get out Syd! Get out! The revelation that Laura might still
be alive was a great touch. It all makes sense though. If Sydney was able to do it, why couldn’t
Laura?
For all you fans who still haven’t sorted this whole
Rambaldi thing out, here it goes:
“Milo Rambaldi was Pope Alexander VI’s chief architect. He was
an artist and inventor. His designs were so technologically advanced that, at the time, they thought he was a heretic, and
he was executed. Now, 500 years later, many believe he was a prophet.”
Furthermore, there’s
this master plan that no one knows the details about.
Syd’s Tips
-
When being chased by the police, go to a port
and drive into the ocean. Wait until the car sinks completely in and swim out the window. Use the air from the tires to breathe
then swim away once the police vacate the premises.

Quotable Quotes
-
Weiss (on
Haladki): “The guy’s got manners of a six year-old.”
-
Sydney: “I might not have been a genius at 19 years-old…”
Kendall (looking down in file): “Says
here you were a genius.”
-
Syd: “After what they did to Danny,
what they tried to do to me, I swore I would destroy them.”
-
Kendall: “How many times does SD-6 send you on operations?”
-
Vaughn: “I believe in you. Did you think
I would just throw anyone on my trunk?”
-
Kendall: “Do you believe Rambaldi was a prophet?” The six-million dollar
question.
-
Sydney: “Mom’s alive. I know it.”
Some Final Notes
-
I loved watching Francie and Will watch the
car chase. They have no idea that Sydney is on the run.
-
Jack was great when he confronted Haladki.
-
No Sloane, Dixon, or Marshall this week.
-
SD stands for Section Disparu: The disappeared
section.
-
Why would Jack, in the premier episode, tell
Sydney that he was one member of the Alliance?
-
Will is boring without the SD-6 story.
-
Cliffhanger: Sydney realizes that her mother is alive.
