The Getaway
Episode 2.12

That was a close one. Sydney and Vaughn almost got shot and Jack almost got killed by our friend Ariana. She sure has stirred up some trouble with her three episode arc on Alias. Personally, I think Faye Dunaway was excellent in this role and I hope we get to see her again soon. Also, Emily is…ALIVE!!!

Sloane fabricated this whole thing. I never thought he would go through so much trouble to save Emily. He framed Ariana for the whole thing. That’s clever. She had it coming though. This was the one time I agreed with one of Sloane’s decisions. She almost killed the Bristows. How did you expect me to react? I’m glad the writers decided to use Sloane as the person to frame Ariana. It would make sense. At one point, I thought the whole affair was real. That would have been a stupid move on the writers’ part. And of course, who was waiting for Sloane at the Philippines? Our lovely Emily. I was over-ecstatic when I saw her face. Amy Irving is great and she’s a great person to have on the show. This is my question: did Sloane keep the $100 million? It would make sense. Does the Alliance know now? I have so many questions.

Jack was deadly this week. Reference to the pilot: Rather than Jack saving Sydney in his car, it was Sydney saving Jack in her car. I love those kinds of scenes. Whether or not I agree with Jack’s decision to not include Sydney in his investigation, he was once again acting in her best interest. I’m glad he went to Irina for help. We might not want to believe it, but Irina is a smart woman. Also, I loved her comment about meeting her operations officer in his hotel room when she was Jack’s wife. That hit Jack pretty hard. What is it with her and ruining good moments? She even got Chinese food for supper. Jack should ask for her help more often. I’m sure it would spare her from eating the food she eats now. I can just picture it: tough meat, water, and undercooked pasta. Yes, food is my main priority.

Cheers to the two stupidest people on Earth. Sydney and Vaughn are going to get a beating when I get my hands on them. Sydney, what the hell are you doing? You know better than that. Sorry, I was frustrated with this whole scenario. I can understand that the hormones start acting up when they’re around each other, but please. That was a really close call. Not to mention the fact that the were going to seal the deal and sleep together. I might love Jennifer Garner, but this is not my jealousy talking. Vaughn showed some incredible moves though. He was carrying a gun, a knife, and who knows what else. Is he field rated?

Sydney and Vaughn are moving towards something big. In the warehouse, Sydney spat out her feelings about Alice. I think she has the right to be angry at him. He keeps sending her these mixed signals. How is Sydney supposed to react? Sure, she will be frustrated if she learnt Vaughn is back with Alice. It caught her completely off guard too when she was at the bar. I was shocked that Vaughn agreed to lie to cover his mistakes on the mission de-brief. He’s a boy scout. However, I will give him a pass just because the two of them are such a great team.

Syd’s Tips

-          When a man with a gun is walking towards you from behind, throw anything that will shatter on him. This will give you the time you need to hide.

Mission Files

MAIN OBJECTIVE: Acquire the Triad’s quantum gyroscope

SD-6 MISSION

ALIAS: Punk girl

LOCATION: Nice, France

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: None

MARSHALL’S GADGETS:

-          Millimeter Wave Reading Glasses: Glasses that allow the wearer to see through clothes.

-          Artful Dodger: A ring with a sharp edge that can cut through clothing.

OBJECTIVE: Intercept the device from Karl Schatz.

CIA COUNTERMISSION: Get a duplicate copy of the gyroscope from a CIA team in a utility room of the airport.

Quotable Quotes

-          Sydney: “There are so many things I hate about Arvin Sloane. The thing I hate the most is the way he wraps his criminal activity in the flag.”

-          Sydney: “You didn’t even tell me you were seeing Alice again.” Yeah Vaughn.

-          Weiss: “I want an éclair.”

Vaughn: “No, I’m serious. Any suspect signal, I want to know about.”

Weiss: “If they’re small, bring me two.” I would want two too.

-          Jack: “So we can assume a secondary objective was to make Arvin suffer. Someone harboring an acute hatred. Meaning it could be anyone.” That’s true.

-          Irina: “When I was your wife, I would meet my operations officer in his hotel room.”

Some Final Notes

-          Francie is the best person to come home too. She has a restaurant. You get free drinks and free food. Love that.

-          That restaurant owner in France is a romantic. He offered Sydney and Vaughn a free stay at his inn.

-          We know why Vaughn’s call sign is “Boy Scout.” On his first day, he had forgotten his manual. Boy scouts are always prepared. He promised the officer in charge that he would be prepared after that.

-          Weiss is back. He has changed. He’s jollier if that’s possible. He practically pushed Vaughn to go out with Sydney.

-          The scenes in the airport were priceless. Dixon dressing up as a priest was great. Sydney was also great dressed up as a punk. She could have been a great thief in a previous life.

-          I cracked up when Marshall was in the boardroom with his elaborate gifts. Sydney’s flower arrangement was bigger than her.

-          I knew Sloane would never betray Jack. It finally hit me that Jack doesn’t know Alliance protocol. Sloane’s letter was a great touch.

-          Emily really did lose her finger.

Excellent episode. 5 stars
