To tell you the truth, I really didn’t like the flashbacks
this week. I don’t like watching drug addicts do stupid things to look more stupid. I really had no sympathy for Charlie.
He seduced a woman just so he can rob her family. She did so much for him, but he betrayed her. I like Charlie, but the whole
story was anticlimactic. However, the hunt for Ethan was AMAZING! That’s true Lost.
I love when all the characters gang up to protect each other. They’re a family.
I was looking forward to another Charlie-centric episode,
but this one disappointed me. I just want a story not revolving around his drug addiction or band. I want to see where he
grew up, how he grew up. This drug addiction is getting old. He was hanging around with his manipulative drug dealer who got
him to seduce a rich girl. Her father owns a paper business and they live in a huge house. Fantastic. Charlie’s friend got him to get into the house and use his charm to steal some Winston Churchill
collectible. What was it? It’s comforting to know that Lucy invites anyone
in her home. Obviously the story needed to be told. The story with Lucy revolved around his lack of responsibility. As he
remembered the past, he put it in his mind to be responsible for Claire’s well-being. I have to acknowledge his frame
of mind, but the story was just too boring. I genuinely cared for Lucie and I think Charlie did too. It was a sour way to
end a relationship. I will give him points though for confronting her in the end though. He tried cleaning up after his mess.
Somehow, I think this past incident gave him the strength to kill Ethan.
I’m glad he’s dead. Charlie was right. Ethan
was never going to tell them anything. I loved watching the Losties work together
to save Claire. They’re better united than alone. Jack had some great scenes with Locke and some great ass-kicking action
with Ethan. I’m glad he destroyed him. I even liked Sawyer complimenting Jack. I had
forgotten about that fifth gun. On a side note, why is Jack always so reluctant on bringing Kate with him when he goes
on his missions? She can handle a gun better than he can. She obviously knows how to track a predator and she’s good
at hiking in the forest. It’s time he stops treating her like a child. This might have been the first time though that
the survivors actually spoke without clashing with each other. They make a pretty good team too. For example, Locke is the
hunter and Sayid is the strategist. They worked well together.
So Claire comes back and she doesn’t remember a thing.
Did Ethan do something to her? She seems to be an obsession for Ethan. If there are others on the island, then I don’t
think it’s Claire they ultimately want: they want her baby. Why? Don’t ask me. I just find it weird to have Claire
not remembering anybody. I’m glad in the end she remembered about the imaginary peanut butter. That was a great moment.
I hope the writers keep the couple together.
Spotlight on…Charlie
-
Charlie is running out of drugs. He is broke
and his friend tells him of a rich girl called Lucy whose father is rich. He wants Charlie to seduce her and get into her
house.
-
Lucy invites Charlie to her house. She’s
attracted to him. She wants Charlie to meet her father.
-
Charlie is at dinner with Lucy and her father.
He tells him that Liam walked out on the band. They are no longer on speaking terms. Lucy’s dad offers Charlie a job
as a salesman for his photocopiers. Charlie’s friend wants the collectible from the house, but Charlie says he has to
start thinking of his future. His friend walks out on him, leaving him with no drugs.
-
Charlie is getting ready for his sale Lucy
has bought him a new suit and briefcase. While she’s not looking, he grabbed the collectible.
-
Charlie makes a complete fool of himself at
the sale. He hasn’t had a fix in two days and he’s looking rotten.
-
He returns to Lucy’s house to apologize
to her. She doesn’t accept it. He says he wanted to make her proud. She slammed the door in his face.
Tales from the Island
Charlie: I had to kill
him. I had to. He should never have gotten close to Claire. I blame myself for that. Now, I made sure he would never get in
our camp again. The others are so naïve, thinking Ethan would even talk. I know he wouldn’t. I didn’t trust him.
If you could have seen his eyes…he was looking for Claire. She is all he wanted. They want something from her, something
we can’t offer. Whatever the case, I will never let her leave again. She seems to be remembering some stuff: she says
she remembers peanut butter. I bloody hope she remembers peanut butter. That was the best peanut butter she have ever had.
Quotable Quotes
-
Kate: “We're beyond sharpening knives here, Jack.”
Jack: “I am not putting guns in untrained hands.”
-
Claire: “Who is he, Ethan?”
Charlie:
“Ethan? Ethan's the bad guy.”
-
Claire: “Why would you keep me in the dark, Charlie? I'm already in the dark.”
-
Charlie: “...I wanted you to think I could take care of you.”
Lucy: “You'll never take care of anyone.” That was harsh.
-
Claire: “I remember peanut butter. Why do I remember peanut butter?”
Charlie: “It was imaginary peanut butter actually.”
-
Sawyer: “I took this off the Marshal, back in the old days, you remember him
don't you?”
Jack: “Yeah, I remember him. You shot him, and
missed.”
-
Jack: “Do you know how to use a gun?”
Sawyer: “Well there's one polar bear that seems to think so.”
Some Final Notes
-
Vincent is back.
-
What is wrong with Boone? How could he fall
asleep on watch?
-
Shannon was stupid. Why did she have to spill the beans to Claire?
-
I wonder if Sawyer just handed the gun back
to Jack.
-
Sun and Jin were weird this week. Their conversation
was out of the ordinary. I think he’s starting to suspect something. Does he think Sun can speak English? He feels angry
because he got hurt because of what the others did.
-
I love the Driveshaft song: “You All
Everybody”
-
Charlie’s last name was Pace. I’m
so proud for noticing this. I’m on a roll.
-
Scott Jackson is dead. We never met him, but
we know that everybody confused him for Steve. I liked watching Hurley taking this small detail seriously.
-
Did all of you see Locke’s grin after
he got a gun. This guy is a whacko. That’s why we like him.
To tell you the truth,
I didn’t love the episode. The flashbacks weren’t great, but the stuff on the island was good. 2 stars. Should it be higher?
