I love Locke. He’s one of the best characters ever
in tv history. Like I said once, I’m glad Terry O’Quinn was given the part. He grabs the material he’s given
and runs with it. He runs the extra mile. The whole episode felt perfect, smart and addictive. Like all you fans, I want to
know why Locke was in a wheelchair. Also, what’s going to happen to Boone? Is he going to die? And the hatch LIT UP!
I love this show.
Remind me to punch the writers out next time I see them.
They specifically know that the fans want to know the truth behind Locke’s accident and they still haven’t told
us. Not only that, but they kept faking us. Those bloody writers. How dare they keep
us hanging? It seems to me like the flashbacks took place more than ten years ago. Emily’s driver’s license
confirmed it. Now, was I shocked when I heard that Locke was immaculately conceived? Yes and no. Yes because I think it’s
such a great idea. No because the Losties are not normal. They’re all “special.”
I truly believe that.
It was fitting to see Locke’s father. John deserved
to know the truth about his parents: the right to meet them. Every child should have that right. It felt as if Locke was still
a child. All he ever wanted was a father figure. Could life have turned out better for him if he had someone to look up to?
Probably. He could have maybe found a better job, or maybe start a family. I can picture
him as a family man. His father, however, was nothing of the sort. Cooper is a lying two-faced jackass (excuse my language) who never deserved a son like Locke. It’s a shame. Locke deserved someone better. To
watch Locke be used in such a way was heart-breaking. This just proves Locke’s purity. His soul is pure.
I also found Locke’s mother Emily interesting. She’s
a schizophrenic who’s been institutionalized several times. She looks like a whacko. To tell you the truth, I didn’t
like her character. How does one just leave a child then have the nerve to con him? It’s bad enough she never wanted
him. This whole story made me think of Jesus and Mary. Emily is definitely not Mary, but Locke is as innocent as Jesus. He’s
never seen evil. He’s a really good person.
Locke’s dream deserves a review of its own. Boone’s
scene was huge. His reference to Theresa going up the stairs and down somewhat foreshadowed his own accident. He goes up the
tree and comes tumbling back down. Then, it was ironic to see Locke’s mother point him to the direction of the plain.
His mother has never been there for him, never having offered any guidance. In the end, she points him to the truth, to the
plane. How’s that for symbolism? There was a priest in the plane. Or was
he a priest? The yellow plane was filled with statues of Mary filled with heroine.
Apart from the Locke storyline, Jack and Sawyer had some
great scenes together. I loved watching Sawyer answer Jack’s ridiculously humiliating questions. Let’s see: he
slept with a prostitute, got a sexually transmitted disease and has recently had an outbreak. Jack is good. Kate also knows
about him now. I still don’t know if I want her hooking up with the bad boy. Don’t get me wrong. I like Sawyer,
but I like Jack more. Besides, I think Jack believes Sawyer’s got a thing for Kate and vice versa. He said it himself:
“I didn’t do it for Sawyer.” I love love triangles.
Spotlight on...Locke
-
Locke works at a toy store and is teaching
a kid to play “Mouse Trap.” A woman walks in and asks him where the footballs are. She seems to be staring at
him.
-
Locke sees the same woman in the parking lot.
She keeps staring at him. She catches up with her. They sit at a restaurant and she tells him she’s his mother. She
says he’s special. She says he’s immaculately conceived.
-
John hires a private investigator. The latter
says the woman really is his mother. Her name is Emily. The investigator thinks his father doesn’t know who he is. Locke
goes to meet his father. His father says he never knew he had a son until a year after his birth. He invites him hunting.
-
A few weeks later, Locke returns to see his
father. He sees his father on a dialysis machine. Supposedly, Cooper’s kidneys are failing and he’s in need of
a transplant.
-
Locke is in a hospital room with his father.
He’s going go give Cooper a kidney.
-
Locke wakes up from the operation. He learns
that his father checked himself out early and went home. He didn’t leave a message. Locke receives a visit from his
mother who tells him that it was all Cooper’s idea. The whole plan was devised by his father. Locke, still in pain,
goes to Cooper’s house. He is forced out of Cooper’s property.
Tales from the Island
Locke: I saw the hatch
light up. I was yelling and crying and out of nowhere, the hatch lights up. It gave me hope. It was a sign. I’m going
the right way. I know where I’m supposed to go and that’s inside the hatch. Boone was a necessary sacrifice. It
was supposed to happen. He was the key. I am a man of faith and my faith will guide me until the end. I’ve had too many
disappointments in my lifetime. From my father to the accident, I need something good to happen.
Quotable Quotes
-
Locke (Talking to the hatch): “I've done everything you wanted me to
do. So why did you do this?! Why?!”
-
Sawyer: “If you're looking for a stool sample, you can forget it.”
-
Jack: “You're sensitive to the light too, huh?”
Sawyer: “You know what? I'm sensitive to you.” He’s such a jerk.
-
Boone: “Have you been using that wacky paste stuff that made me see my sister
get eaten?”
-
Jack: “You picking up on a little Korean there, Michael?”
Michael: “Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know how to say: faster and idiot.”
-
Boone (in Locke's dream): “Teresa Falls up the stairs, Teresa falls down the stairs...”
-
Locke: “She said I didn't have a father, that I was immaculately conceived.”
Cooper: “I guess that makes me God.” Ya right!
-
Kate: “You're going to Jack.”
Sawyer: “Do I get a lollipop?”
-
Hurley (About Sawyer's new glasses): “Dude, looks like someone steamrolled
Harry Potter.”
Some Final Notes
-
Who was Locke speaking to? Could he have been
speaking to one of “The Others?”
-
What is a priest from Nigeria doing on the island?
-
Sawyer was funny when he tried sniffing to
smell any sign of a tumor.
-
I’ve never played “Mouse Trap.”
I know I hate mice.
-
There’s heroine on the island. Keep
it away from Charlie. I hope Locke realizes this.
-
Michael is close to finishing the raft. Him
and Jin working together was great.
-
Sun’s garden is providing medication.
She’s so great.
-
“Deus Ex Machina” is the Latin
translation for “God from the Machine.” How that pertains to the episode I don’t know.
-
The hatch lit up! Someone’s inside.
Unbelievable. 5 stars
