The Hunting Party
Episode 2.11

This really felt like an in-between episode. The Tailies seem out of the way and now we’re more or less focusing on the Others. Following his explosive entrance in the first season finale, the old man Zeke (as we’ll call him) was back to really piss off Jack and the rest of the Losties.

Again and again, I’m constantly bored with Jack’s stories. They’ve been done before. Yeah, congratulations. He got the hots for some patient’s hot daughter and he fell for her when she kissed him. But the honourable Jack Shephard came running home to tell his wife. His marriage hasn’t been working out so he blames himself. So far so good right? But when his unappreciative wife had planned to move out that very night, his life shatters all around him. It sounds more like a soap opera than anything else.

You’d think Sarah would have the decency to try and solve the problems with her marriage. She’s a bitch and nobody deserves her. Harsh but true. Jack saved her freakin’ life. He changed her whole life. You’d think she could stick around because of that. When people are pigs though, they’re pigs.

The idea of miracles and humans’ desire for miracles was very prevalent in the episode. As well it should be. The Busonis came to the US because they had heard of Sarah’s miracle. They didn’t want him to tell them that he wouldn’t do it; they wanted him to try. That’s all they wanted. Jack’s job is to fix people and he was given the job to fix Mr. Busoni. The thing about miracles though: they happen once in a lifetime.

Michael finally came up with a decision: he’s going after Walt. He’s got everyone looking for him now. Honestly, he’s doing a stupid thing.  If he would have just asked for Jack’s help, the whole island would have gone with him. Am I wrong? He’s acting selfishly putting all his friends in jeopardy. He knows damn well that Locke and Jack would follow. I don’t care if he’s looking for his son; he knows Walt is fine.

So we have a new interesting character: Zeke. That’s what Sawyer called him. I like the name so we’ll keep it. We first saw this guys rip Walt out of Michael’s hands. This time, he had the idea of ripping Kate out of Jack’s hands. So to speak. Is he the leader of the Others? He certainly has some power. He’s interesting though. He made me laugh a few times as well as make me shudder. He’s going to be a fun villain. I’m ready to take him down. I wanted Locke to take him down. Oh! One thing that struck me that was bizarre is that he knew everyone’s name: John Locke, Jack…I can’t recall if he knew Sawyer’s though.

Kate really blew it with Jack. He would have done the same thing though. I don’t blame Kate. She can handle a gun so much better than he can. She can track. She’s a freakin’ fugitive. It’s time Jack lets go of his ego. Besides, I don’t understand why Kate has to listen to Jack. He isn’t her king of anything. That was lame. I think she’s proven herself all this time. Besides, Sawyer should have opened his big mouth. He could have backed her up.

The scene in the forest with all the torches lit around Jack, Locke and Sawyer is a classic. It was actually perfect. I wouldn’t change anything about it. So that disproved Jack’s theory. There really are a lot of them. They have guns. But they looked like peasants from the 19th century. How can they be so scary?

Spotlight on…Jack

-          Christian and Jack are doing a consult. Mr. Busoni doesn’t want Christian to do his surgery on his spine. He wants Jack. They know he did a miracle for Sarah. They want a miracle. They just want him to try. He will.

-          Jack has been monitoring Mr. Busoni for a month. He’s not where Jack would want him to be. Mrs. Busoni left for the night. She comes back and says she doesn’t believe in miracles. He doesn’t either. Sarah gets up right when he gets in. She’s going to exercise. She says she took a pregnancy test and it was negative.

-          Jack is ready to perform the surgery. He asks Mrs. Busoni one more time if she wants him to back off. His father catches him talking with her. He warns him to not get too close.

-          Jack is enraged. He lost Mr. Busoni after he got all the tumor out. Jack wants to tell his daughter but Christian already did. Jack meets her in the parking lot. She’s crying. They kiss momentarily.

-          Jack comes home. Sarah is cleaning the table. He tells her he kissed Mrs. Busoni. He says the whole marriage has been his fault. He’s going to work less and be there for her. She says she was planning on leaving him. She’s been seeing someone.

Tales from the Island

Jack: That’s the last straw. They took Walt. Now they’ve taken Michael…or not yet. We can’t just sit around here anymore. Kate ruined the whole thing. We weren’t about to back out, but they caught her. Why couldn’t she have just listened to me? Would it have killed her? Our whole plan was ruined. We’re not going to give up though. I’ve spoken to Ana Lucia about starting an army. We’re going to do this. I don’t care if they were here before us. We haven’t done anything to them. We’re really going to stick it to them.

Quotable Quotes

-          Sawyer: “You just throw a banana at me?”

Kate: “I couldn’t find any rocks.”

-          Jack: “You’re still on antibiotics.”

Sawyer: “Well, good thing I’m traveling with my doctor.”

-          Locke: “Any of this look familiar from when you were coming back?”

Sawyer: “Oh yeah. There’s my favourite leaf. How can I forget this place?”

-          Christina (about adultery): “It might be ok for some people, but not for you.”

-          Sawyer: “You sure Mike went this way?”

Locke: “Why do you ask?”

Sawyer: “I don’t know Mr. Clean. I probably would have gone around Mount Vesuvius.” I loved this one.

-          Sawyer: “Why are you out here doc? You’ve got your reasons. I’ve got mine.”

-          Hurley (about Libby): “She’s kind of cute right? You know in a “I’ve been terrorized by the Others for 40 days” kind of war.”

-          Charlie: “You think Claire’s missed me yet?”

Hurley: “Dude it’s been one day.”

-          Jack: “How long do you think it would take to train an army?”

-          Zeke: “The only reason you’re living on it is ‘cause we let you live on it.” He’s scary.

Some Final Notes

-          Michael locked Locke and Jack in a closet. They cut it pretty close with the button.

-          Why didn’t Jack let Kate come?

-          Jin wanted to follow Michael but sun told him to stay. She was going crazy without him for days. She wants him to stay. I like how he later told her he didn’t like being told what to do. She told him she was being told what to do for 4 years.

-          Jin’s hat was hysterical.

-          Sawyer called Locke “Daniel Boone” and “Mr. Clean.”

-          Hurley is taking an interest in Libby. He finds her cute. I had to laugh when he set his only shot with her would come now…on a deserted island. He now has a shot.

-          Charlie looked horrible when he saw Locke with the baby. He needs to relax about that.

-          Hurley was talking about a singer, Geranimo Jackson. Who is that?

-          Sayid walked into the hatch and said the music was depressing. Poor guy.

-          Is Jack serious about the army thing?

Didn’t like the flashbacks. I loved the island stuff though. 3 ½ stars
