Finally, we found out what
happened to Claire during her “maternity leave.” But once again, there weren’t enough answers: we didn’t
find out if there really is a disease, we didn’t find out what they wanted with Aaron, we didn’t find out basically
anything. Okay, that’s not true. Anyways, bottom-line: good episode. I just want more next time.
Claire’s determination to find a cure for her baby’s
illness was a great plot point. We don’t often get to see Claire involved in the island’s mystery. It’s
always our management team that get into trouble. I’m glad she was leading the women’s brigade through the jungle
going absolutely Superwoman on us finding the hospital hatch and remembering exactly what happened to her inside. Kate, Claire
and Rousseau were an excellent team. Claire is one of the few mothers on the island. When Sun criticized her about leaving
her child, Claire tells her she doesn’t know what it’s like to be a mother. I think she did the right thing. Her
child’s well-being is the most important thing for a mother.
I loved
Danielle’s return to our camp. She first delivers Henry to the Losties; then she returns to help Claire find a vaccine
for the baby. She was scarier than ever though. I’m glad it’s been
clarified though that Danielle only tried helping Claire when she was scratched. She found the pregnant soon-to-be-mother
passed out on the floor. She carried her on her shoulders all the way to the camp. She would never try and bring Claire to
the Others.
I loved the idea of doing flashbacks of events that happened
on the island. It’s just that I sort of expected everything I saw. I didn’t expect the Others to have that fully-functioning
hospital-type of hatch hidden under shrubs and trees. That was an interesting surprise. It seems like a lot of the Others
are surgeons…or try to be anyways. Ethan really got Claire on his side. She
completely fell for him. She was kind of drugged too. That helped.
What really interested me was how we found out that the rugged
island Others don’t exist. They are all modern. They don’t wear raggy old clothes; they wear shirts and jeans—at
least that’s what Zeke was wearing. He doesn’t have a beard and he doesn’t wear a little ugly hat. These
Others have me confused.
This guys Henry Gale definitely an Other. He’s smart.
He’s curious. He’s dangerous. He’s great at finding a person’s weakness and act on it. He really got
under Locke’s skin. Locke felt it. He just lost it. It’s all true. Jack is always calling the shot. Much to my dismay. Once again, Locke played right into his hands. He let himself just lose it. Breaking the plates
and throwing everything on the ground wasn’t smart. It also doesn’t help that the walls between the armory and
the main room in the hatch are super thin He’s hearing everything.
I loved the conversation Eko had with Henry. We finally learnt
what his two strands of beard hair were for. It symbolized the two dead souls of the two Others he killed. When he finally
made amends for what he did, he was able to cut them off his face. At least this is
what I think this meant. I’m not really good with the symbolism stuff. I have to say something about Eko. He is
extremely effective with that knife of his. Out of nowhere, he just sliced the strands off with one swift move. That should
make Henry fear him for a while.
Spotlight on…Claire
-
Claire is being checked out by Ethan. He is
giving her a shot for the baby.
-
Ethan gives Claire another shot. The liquid
in the vaccine came from a bottle labeled “4 8 15 16 23 42.” He wants to show her a surprise. He made her a room
for the baby.
-
Ethan wants to take a walk with Claire. She
is definitely drugged. They sit and admire the baby kicking in Claire’s stomach. Ethan says that he’s going to
miss her when she leaves. They are going to keep the baby after it’s born.
-
A teenage girl is telling Claire to leave.
Claire sees the room they are going to operate her in. They’re going to take the baby out and leave her die.
-
Danielle sees Claire passed out on the floor
after she escaped. Danielle tries picking her up. She starts going hysterical. Danielle knocks her out and carries her on
her shoulders.
Tales from the Island
Claire: I couldn’t
get what I was looking for. I couldn’t find the vaccine. It turns out though that Jack was right though. It didn’t
turn out to be an infection. It was just a very small virus. Aaron got over it pretty fast. I was just so worried about him
you know? I couldn’t help but feel like I was letting him down. And I remembered what happened. Ethan had injected me
with some vaccine. That’s what I was looking for. And I remembered that Rousseau didn’t try to bring me to the
Others. She tried to save me. I owe her my life.
Quotable Quotes
-
Jack: “Do you have to go to the bathroom?”
Henry: “No.”
Jack: “Well,
just let us now when you do.”
Henry: “Yeah,
I’ll look forward to that.”
-
Sawyer: “What do you want, nine millimeter
or rifle?” He offers a selection.
-
Sun: “A mother should not leave her
child.” You shouldn’t have said that.
-
Zeke (to
Ethan): “You were supposed to make a list then bring her in.” Again a mention of a list.
-
Ethan: “We’re good people Claire.
We’re a good family.”
-
Teenage Girl: “You are going to die.
They are going to cut him out of you.”
-
Danielle (to
Claire): “You’re not the only one who didn’t find what you were looking for.”
-
Danielle (about
the virus): “If it is, I hope you know what must be done.”
-
Eko (about
killing the two Others): “I need you to know how sorry I am.”
-
Henry: “No cheeseburgers huh?”
Locke: “No cheeseburgers.”
-
Henry: “I don’t know why you let
the doctor call the shots.”
Some Final Notes
-
Libby did some weird hypnosis trick on Claire.
-
Why is Eko still cutting down trees?
-
Henry wanted to read Stephen King. This is
all started when Locke gave him to read Dostoyevsky. Then some weird conversation started about Hemingway vs Dostoyevsky.
-
Locke wants some long-term plan about Henry.
-
Sawyer calls Kate “Thelma.”
-
Why did Zeke mention something about a list?
And he seemed to be afraid of some guy. He sounded like the boss.
-
That teenage girl that saved Claire is definitely
Rousseau’s daughter. There’s no doubt.
-
The Dharma hospital was left empty. Why aren’t
they there now?
-
What’s going to happen with Locke and
the continuing power struggle? Henry is sure going to stir some stuff up.
Very good. 4 stars. I just want more next time.
