So we’ve more or less gotten oriented with this season’s
main story: the Dharma Initiative. To tell you the truth, I still don’t have a clue as to what’s going on. But
I’ll tell you one thing, I’m definitely intrigued—more than intrigued…obsessed. I want to learn more.
The Dharma Initiative seems to have been an experiment started
in 1970. It was the brainchild of a couple, the Degroots and funded by Alvar Hanso. Who is Alvar Hanso? I’m guessing
he has some kind of money to fund such a thing. But what is this whole thing about? In the video, Dr. Marvin Candle said scientists
were researching on the island when something terrible happened and the button was created. Is that the whole story? I doubt it.
So what is the hatch? Is it just like some kind of electromagnetic
structure that attracts metal things? That’s usually what these things do.
Watch Sayid go in deep and try and find the secrets of the hatch. Oh and I forgot to mention that it has a front door. How
didn’t Locke find the front door? We know though that the hatch is called the Swan and it’s the third station.
I really loved Locke’s flashbacks. There’s something
about his flashbacks that always work. They seem innocent and down-to-earth. It’s true. He’s the most innocent
out of all our Losties. He’s been hurt. All his life he’s always been
searching for a father figure. The second he gets one, he loses him. Yeah, Locke was at the bottom. He was camping outside
his father’s house. He couldn’t move on.
He meets Helen (finally!) and she’s his breath of fresh
air. I’m glad she made him choose. I love Helen, played by Katey Sagal. She was the best thing that could ever happen
to Locke. He was loved for the first time and he didn’t know how to respond. Respond?
Just love her back. It’s a learning process for Locke. He took the first step when he left those kids on his father’s
lawn. He chose the woman. And I’m glad he did. It was time for him to move on. No more dwelling on the past. What’s
done is done. Thank God Helen was there to show him that.
Is it me or is Jack the most annoying character on this show?
I can’t stand him. His obsession with reason just gets to me. Who is he to leave Locke alone in the hatch then come
back and give him the right number? He is a stuck-up fool. His obsession with thinking rationally and in a leader’s
way gets to me. They’re all in this mess together. What’s so bad with just sticking by the only people that will
virtually be there for you at the end of the day? He’s a bit psycho. But you stick with him.
And then we have the other BIG part of the episode. Holy
mother of Ana-Lucia. What’s her problem? Why is she rolling down hills
and ripping guns off people? What’s her beef? And that huge black guy was really scary. Are they from the back of the
plane? There’s no way Ana-Lucia is working for the Others. She’s not. But let me tell you this, she can rip a
gun off someone pretty easy. What’s up with the Tailies though? How could they survive that?
Spotlight on…Locke
-
Locke is at some type of conference with damaged
patients. He laughs at everyone’s problems. He tells everyone the story of his father. He is angry. At the end of the
meeting, he meets a woman named Helen.
-
Helen slept with Locke. He leaves in the middle
of the night to watch his father’s estate. His father gets into the car and tells him to leave. Locke isn’t wanted
here.
-
Helen gives Locke a present for their six-month
anniversary. It’s a key. She gave him a key to her place. She wants him to come only if he stayed though. She says she
followed him one day. She knows he goes to some man’s place every night.
-
Locke is staying at Helen’s place. He
leaves in the middle of the night to go see his father. Helen follows him and give him a choice: him or her. Locke chooses
her.
Tales from the Island
Locke: The clock kept counting
down. Kate had made Desmond fire a shot into the computer. It was as if the world had ended to him. Desmond was going crazy.
At one point, he just gave up and ran away. Jack also left me in there alone. He doesn’t share my point of view. He
doesn’t think the same. Why is it so hard for him to believe in what I believe? I have faith. That’s why I’ve
taken the first shift. I know we have to do this. I know this is for a purpose. I just hope the others will be with me for
the whole time. I need them to be with me. I can’t do this alone. I hope Jack realizes that. I need my friends with
me.
Quotable Quotes
-
Ana Lucia: “Flight 815?”
Sawyer:
“You were on it, too?”
-
Desmond (to Jack): “See you in another life, yeah?”
-
Ana Lucia: “How come you didn't use it when they grabbed you?”
Saywer: “Guess I was too busy getting hit in the face with a club.”
-
Kate: “What does it look like?”
Sayid: “It's a breaker box. There has to be one. Follow the conduit lines.”
Hurley: “Cool, OK. Great. What's a conduit line?”
-
Jack: “How is it that you didn't know about the crash? About us?”
Desmond: “I push this button every 108 minutes. I don't get out much.”
-
Jack: “Why are you running? You don't even know what you're running from!”
Desmond: “I remember you.”
-
Desmond: “So I started pushing the button too. And we saved the world together
for a while, and that was lovely. But then he died, and I had to save the world alone.” That does suck.
-
Hurley: “Dude, I've got to say, I didn't think we were going to get through
the night. And I wasn't even here for that baby stealing part.”
Sayid:
“I can assure you it was very exciting.” Hysterical.
-
Hurley: “It's about time things are finally returning to normalness.”
Kate (runs out of jungle): “Sayid!”
Hurley: “Oh, crap.” Of course, trouble.
-
Sawyer (to Ana Lucia): “Alright, here's what we're going to do - Jin
plays dead, you call for help.”
Ana Lucia: “Sick prisoner -
are you serious?”
Sawyer: “What? You got a better idea, sweetheart?”
-
Helen: “I've got a thing for bald men.”
Locke: “I'm not bald.”
Helen: “I can wait.”
Some Final Notes
-
The big black man was scary. Who is he?
-
Kate was amazing knocking Desmond to the floor
with her gun.
-
Desmond couldn’t remember Jack for the
longest time until the end of the episode. I loved how he asked Jack about Sarah. It turns out Jack is divorced which we already
know. But he feels bad about it.
-
Hurley was in heaven when he saw all that
food. I would be too.
-
Desmond’s partner’s name was Kelvin.
He died.
-
The orientation video guy is scary.
-
Sawyer called Jin “Chewie.”
-
Marvin Dandle said “namaste.”
What’s that?
-
The Orientation film was created in 1980,
ten years after the Dharma Initiative began.
-
It feels like I’ve covered everything.
This one was good. 5 stars
