Finally. I’ve been waiting for this episode since the
beginning of the series. What did Kate do? Always. That was always a question I wanted answered. Am I satisfied? Damn straight.
Actually, this episode is going down as one of my favourites. I loved Kate this week as well as the developing love triangle
between her, Jack and Sawyer.
We knew that her original crime had something do to with
her mother since the latter freaked when she saw her daughter at the hospital. But I didn’t realize how much I hated
her mother until now. Hate’s a strong work and it suits its purpose. I don’t
get some people. If you’re getting abused, tell someone. Or the very least, don’t stick up for him. In this case,
Kate’s mother just gave her up. Who gives up a child who without a doubt was doing it to protect her mother?
I don’t blame Kate for acting in such a way. It’s
like the marshal said. Who could stand and hear your mother get beaten up by your stepfather? Kate did the right thing by
doing something about it, but she shouldn’t have blown him up. She should have learnt like kick-boxing or something.
Something to just beat him up and scare him off. By the way Wayne was looking at her, I thought
he had raped her. That would have been bad.
I loved how Wayne turned
out to be her biological father. Kate knew it. She didn’t give a damn. When she went to see Sgt. Austen, her “real”
father, she finally confronts him. She asks him why he never took her away. Why didn’t he kill him? In a simple one
liner, Sgt. Austen responds: “I don’t have a murderer’s heart.” I thought that was just so huge. It’s
at that moment that Kate realizes that she’s not going home…ever.
You just had to admire Evangeline Lilly this week. We all
got the impression that Kate had gone mad. I think she did. It was played very well. What set it in motion was the sight of
the horse. Yeah. The horse freaked me out too. How was that horse that helped her
escape the marshal on the island? We know it wasn’t a hallucination because Sawyer saw it. Was it just a coincidence?
I think not. Definitely not on this show.
We know for sure now that there’s going to be something
going on involving a love triangle. Who does Kate really love? She was up twenty-four hours straight taking care of Sawyer.
Jack has obviously felt jealous. I don’t think he wants her taking care of him so much. I’m sure he still has
that image of her calming him down in last week’s episode. But I think it’s hard for Jack to understand Kate.
It’s hard for anyone to understand Kate. I don’t think that kiss really
meant anything. But the only person who really knows her is Sawyer. That’s why she clicks with him. Watch her click
a lot more with him.
We said our final good-byes to Shannon this week. She’s
been buried next to her brother Boone on the whacko island. Sayid doesn’t look too good though. I really feel bad for
him. Just when they were about to profess their love for each other, she dies. That’s really hard. I felt like crying
with him when he gave his speech. This is why Naveen Andrews is so great. He makes you feel the pain. You just want to get
into your tv screen and feel what he’s feeling. It’s so real.
I don’t know what to make out of the splices in the
orientation video. Eko found a tape in the Bible that he found in their hatch. This new segment of the tape revealed that
the computer cannot be used for anything else but to press the button. It will supposedly entice the user to make contact
with the outside world. This is forbidden. In Marvin Kandle’s words, it can complicate the Initiative’s purpose.
So what’s going to happen now that Michael has started communicating with Walt’s imposter? Yeah right. Do you
think I’m going to fall for that? That’s definitely not Walt. Does Damon
think I’m stupid?
Spotlight on…Kate
-
Kate is sitting on the front porch. A man
comes with his car. He’s drunk. She brings him into his room. She tucks him into bed. She then gets into her motorcycle
and drives off as the house behind her explodes.
-
She goes to a diner and she is served by her
mother. Her mother lies to her about her injured wrist. Kate knows the man her mother was married to did that to her. She
said she’s taken care of everything. She takes an insurance policy on the house and she gives it to her mom. She runs
away.
-
Kate is trying to buy a ticket to Tallahassee. A man behind her tries to start a conversation with her. He tells not to go to Tallahassee. It’s not a place for a girl. In an instant, he attacks her. He’s arresting her. He tells her her mother
gave her up.
-
The marshal is alone in the car with Kate.
He tells her he has her all figured out. He asks her why she waited so long to kill him. Suddenly, he swerves the car. Kate
is able to steal the car and run off. The black horse caused the crash.
-
Kate goes to visit her real father Sgt. Austen.
This is what she’s been made to think. In reality, Wayne was her biological father.
She figured it out. She asks him why he didn’t take her. He said he tried, but he just couldn’t.
Tales from the Island
Kate: I saw the black horse.
I thought I was going mad. That horse was the one that saved me from the marshal the first time around. How could there be
horses on the island though? This place is just weird. Sawyer made it back ok. He was having a really bad fever for the past
two days. I was really worried. I couldn’t sleep. I even missed Shannon’s funeral so I could be there
for him. What’s going on in this place? It’s just scaring me more and more. I think I’m doing better now
though.
Quotable Quotes
-
Jack: “Michael told me you took the
bullet out with your bare hands. You’ll have to teach me how to do that.” Sure.
-
Kate: “I took care of you Ma.”
-
Kate: “When you wake up, you’re
gonna get a kick out of me feeding you like a baby.”
-
Charlie: “Looks like they’ve gone
all Lord of the Flies over there.”
-
Kate (to
Jack): “I’m sorry I’m not as perfect as you. I’m sorry I’m not as good as you.”
-
Kate: “Do you believe in ghosts Sayid?”
-
Marshal: “It’s a long drive back
to the arraignment. You comfy?” I hate him.
-
Eko: “Long before Christ, the king of
Judah was a man named Josiah.”
Locke: “Boy,
when you say ‘beginning’ you mean ‘beginning.’ That’s a really long time.
-
Hurley: “So Rose’s husband’s
white. Didn’t see that one coming.”
-
Jack: “Why would I be mad at Sawyer?”
Hurley: “Because
he’s the only one who usually comes down here and chops wood up and now you are. It’s like transference.”
He’s so random.
-
Kate: “Every time I look at Sawyer,
every time I feel something for him, I see you Wayne. It makes me sick.”
Sawyer: “That’s
about the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard.”
-
Eko: “Don’t mistake coincidence
for fate.”
-
Ana: “You gonna try and convince me
that everyone here doesn’t hate me.”
Jack: “Only
if you’re gonna try to convince me every woman in the world’s not crazy.” Loved this one.
-
Sawyer (when
he sees the island): “Son of a bitch.”
Some Final Notes
-
Hurley woke up in the morning and gave a thumbs
up to Jin after realizing they had sex. This is hysterical.
-
Ana Lucia didn’t go to the funeral.
I feel bad for her.
-
Jin got his cuff taken off today. He’s
finally free. I guess that’s a big relief for the production team not having to remember to put it on every day.
-
Michael says there are blast doors in the
hatch in case of an explosion.
-
Eko wanted to see the movie. He fascinates
me. How does he know the whole Bible off by heart? Is he a priest?
-
Sayid told Kate about seeing Walt.
-
Kate thinks Sawyer is Wayne. He reminds her of him. I loved her speech to Sawyer while he was unconscious. She looked like a madwoman. Beautiful
scene.
-
Jack brought Ana Lucia tequilla. They’re
going to get together.
-
The last line of the computer screen: “Dad?”
Wow. I still don’t buy it.
I loved this episode. 5 stars
