Were we exposed to some new answers? Not as much. Were we exposed to some interesting stuff? We
sure were. I loved the return of our faves to the island: Shannon, Boone and Mr. Arzt. I really missed these guys. I also
liked the detective/mystery storyline. As for the death of Nikki and Paulo, that was alright. I still don’t care about
them though.
It’s not like it’s their fault I don’t
like them. It’s just there was no point to having them on this season. I blame the writers for that. Who brings two
new characters in and just has them killed after we’ve only seen them in two scenes. It’s that stupid. I will say though that the writers did well with what they had. Poor Kiele Sanchez and
Rodrigo Santoro. They join a hot show and get battered by the constant hate. Then, they just end up dying…or buried
alive.
That, I think, is the most gruesome death you can ever experience.
Paulo and Nikki were both bitten by Medusa spiders. They are deadly and one bite from them will cause the bitten to go paralyzed.
It was fitting when both of them died because of greed. Paulo couldn’t bare tell Nikki about the diamonds he had found
underwater and Nikki couldn’t bare let Paulo get away with any of this. They aren’t good people. Both of them
lied and cheated their ways into getting the diamonds. Oh those diamonds meant the world to them.
Like most treasures, these diamonds represented exactly what
human nature was all about: greed. It’s what everyone wants. They want power and money. And in most stories, greed leads
our characters to their downfall. This was the case here. Paulo kept the diamonds away from his “true love.” You don’t do that. I wonder if Paulo really did love Nikki though. Did he mean
what he said? She was obviously with him just so she could get her hands on the diamonds. But was he? He knew that giving
her the diamonds would drive her away from him. He wasn’t ready to lose her. Now it seems like they’ve both lost
each other.
I loved how their stories coincided with everyone else’s.
There were some great “revisiting” moments in the episode. I loved the pilot scenes where Nikki is running everywhere
looking for Paulo. I also loved the return to the “White Rabbit” episode where Jack delivers his influential speech
to the rest of the Losties. I loved the interaction Nikki had with Dr. Arzt even
if his character slightly aggravates me from time to time. I loved how they revisited the classic locations our core characters
visited: the lake with the dead bodies, Yemi’s plane, the Pearl…Now I do have a problem with a few of the flashbacks. How could Nikki and Paulo find another
hatch and not tell anyone what they found? That makes no sense to me. Wait, Jack and
Kate did that.
I really did enjoy the whole detective game Sawyer, Hurley
and Jin were playing. Hurley was so excited to play “CSI.” He almost freaked when he saw Sawyer dump the water
out of the bottle. It ruined the evidence. That’s something stupid I would say.
I liked how the blame was put on Sawyer at one point. I have to count every time someone comes to ask him a favour while he’s
reading a book in those ridiculous glasses. I crack up every time I see a scene like this one.
The truth about Sun’s kidnapping finally came to the
surface. It was kind of underwhelming really. Why did Sun find the need to just punch out Sawyer when Charlie was evidently
the one who did it? Is it because he’s an easier target? I also thought the whole reveal was stupid. Charlie didn’t
have an inch of remorse on his face. It seemed sarcastic and out of character. At least in Fire + Water, the audience could see he regretted every minute of that day. Now it just seemed he wanted to piss
her off. I’m glad Sun didn’t tell Jin though. Although I was looking for a little bit of conflict, it was the
right thing to do. With a punch, she did a better job than Jin could ever do.

Some Final Notes
-
The show Nikki was staring in was called Exposé. Like Hurley, this show was right up my ally.
-
Sawyer and Hurley were playing ping-pong again.
Hurley is still winning.
-
What was Paulo staring at in the ocean? That
was weird.
-
Shannon hinted that Boone might be gay. I don’t think she meant it like that.
He in fact did love her.
-
I missed watching Shannon
yell like a madwoman during the crash.
-
Nikki met Dr. Arzt during the crash. She then
crossed Boone who was looking for a pen. Everything is so consistent.
-
Nikki was the one who took Paulo’s shoe
off and threw it in a tree. She also unzipped his pants. Who puts diamonds in their crotch? Wait, on second thought…
-
Jin thought the monster killed the couple.
-
Paulo found the walkie-talkie in the Pearl. Again, why didn’t he tell anyone?
-
It was really creepy when Juliet and Ben walk
in the Pearl. This was obviously prior to his capture. Juliet said the hatch gave her the
creeps.
-
Hurley says Desmond’s super power is
lame.
-
Vincent was ripping off Paulo and Nikki’s
death blankets.
-
I’m glad Sun have the diamonds back
to Sawyer. She was better than that.
-
Sun’s punch was beautiful.
-
I can’t believe Nikki opened her eyes
just when the dirt was poured on her. That was very creepy. It was actually scary.
It was good, but it wasn’t.
