D.O.C.
Episode 3.18

As this is becoming a trend, we’re finally getting answers. Come on, all you fussy fans have to admit we’re getting some nice answers. This week, we learnt who exactly the father of Sun’s baby is…JIN. What a great plot point. I have to see what happens now. I can guarantee you one thing: Juliet is going to kidnap Sun. She has another pregnant chic on the island.

I think Sun might be the strongest woman on the island. She has to be. This week’s flashback took place right after the wedding. This might have been my favourite Sun/Jin episode. There have been many. The idea of shame was featured heavily and I liked watching the effect it had on Sun. Jin’s mother came to her and demanded a sum of $100 000. She wouldn’t tell the media about who she really is: a prostitute. In addition to having a father as a fisherman, Jin had a mother who was a prostitute. That wouldn’t go over well in the city.

Sun has a fire about her. She wasn’t scared while standing up to her father. She came to him and demanded the money. She claims she has pretended all this time of not knowing what Mr. Paik really does. She will continue to do so, if he helps her. And he did. I really didn’t want her to deliver the money to Jin’s mother. I honestly hoped she’d hit her across the head. Sun is very much like her father though. She promised to hurt her if ever she told the world that she (Jin’s mother) was a prostitute. She’s overprotective…and she doesn’t play nice.

I’m wondering if the writers are planning a flashback of Jin as a young boy to really explore whether his father is really his father. Jin’s mom just left him with his father and the latter doesn’t even know if Jin is his real son. What did Sun think of Jin though when she learnt his father was alive? Did she think he was shameful? Or was this necessary? She stood up for him until the end though and I respect that.

So, this search for the real man brings her to Juliet. Kate really didn’t look well the last time she was there. Juliet left an ultrasound machine there to use on Sun. Now, Juliet must have known all this time that Sun was pregnant. She’s such a devil. This was a lose-lose situation for Sun. If she got pregnant off the island, it wasn’t Jin’s baby. If she got pregnant on the island, it was Jin’s baby but she was going to die. Things weren’t looking good for Sun. I really believe Yunjin played the scene well. I think that might have been the hardest thing to do. She had to act happy all the while being angry. That’s a toughie and she finished it beautifully.

Okay, I don’t know how I feel about Juliet. I can’t stand that sideways sardonic smile she always has on her face, but I love her energy and the way she deceives people. Very Mama Derevko. We know she’s not double-crossing the Losties because she wants to. Ben is making her for some reason. On the recording, she states that she hates him. She really likes this group of people and she’s going to end up hurting them.

Marsha Thomason’s character has me going crazy over her. I love her. And how many languages can one woman talk? She was speaking Portuguese and English. Probably another one too. What’s her deal? Who is she? She must have been sent from Penny because there’s so other explanation. Supposedly, I heard she didn’t say “thank you” but “I’m not alone.” Ooooo. So she isn’t alone. That’s fun. Who is she working for though? Why is she on the island? I need answers.

What the heck was she saying when she said the plane was found and all the survivors were dead? This can bring up several theories: 1) Maybe Widmore covered up the crash for some reason. He has the power. 2) Jacob probably covered it up to keep the victims on the island. A lot of cover-ups let’s just say that.

How the heck is Mikhail alive? That felt like a slight stretch. Maybe a bit more than slight. When he came out of the jungle, I felt a bit cheated. That whole fence scene was just a con of some sort. I don’t like that. If this isn’t explained soon, this will feel like a huge blow for me and it kind of took away from how good the episode was. I don’t get why Desmond let him leave though. I wanted Jin to kick him a bit more.

Spotlight on…Sun and Jin

-          Jin calls Sun from their newly bought house. Sun hangs up and sits on a park’s bench. A woman comes to sit next to her. She saw the wedding in the paper. This woman says Jin’s mother was a prostitute and she will reveal this to the press if she doesn’t give her $100 000.

-          Jin comes home with some food. Sun asks him for some pictures from his family. He says he never had any. His family was too poor to have any cameras. He says his father died when he was in the army.

-          Sun goes to visit Jin’s old town. She finds his dad and he immediately knows who she is. She tells him about the wedding. She asks him why he wasn’t at the wedding. He says he couldn’t be there. He later reveals that his wife was with many men. One day she showed up with a child and left Jin on his dad’s doorstep. He’s not even sure Jin is his son.

-          Sun goes to her father and asks for $100 000. She says she has pretended all her life to not know what he does for a living. She will keep doing so only if he gives her the money.

-          Sun is decorating the apartment. Jin finds money in his wife’s purse. He wants her to give it back to her father.

-          Sun realizes that the blackmailer is indeed Jin’s mother. She tells her to take the money and leave.

Tales from the Island

Sun: The baby is Jin’s. I can’t believe it. In the medical hatch, it felt like I was in a lose-lose situation. I was with Juliet. I blindly followed to that hatch and she took an ultrasound for me. She says the date of conception had to have been on the island. It’s Jin’s baby, but I will probably die. What do I do now? Juliet said she would try and prevent me from dying. But when is this going to happen exactly. Juliet says I only have two months. What do you do in two months? I’m scared. How am I going to tell Jin?

Quotable Quotes

-          Sun: “What happens to pregnant women on the island?”

Juliet: “They die.”

-          Mikhail: “I already died once this week.” Then why are you back?

-          Juliet: “When was the last time you and your husband has sex?”

-          Juliet: “I’m here to tell you that you and you’re husband got pregnant before you got here. I’m here to give you good news again.”

-          Juliet: “[Ben] I hate you.”

-          Charlie: “In case you have forgotten, there are people on this island looking to kill us!”
Desmond: “Nobody knows we're here!”
Hurley (fires off a flare): “Oops.”

Some Final Notes

-          Now we know why Jin became a thug. It was all Sun’s fault—unintentional of course.

-          Was Jack acting weird or was it just me? He definitely told the Others that Sun is pregnant and I’m sure he’s bee compromised.

-          I laughed when Hurley fired the flare. That’s a typical Hurley move.

-          How does Jin know how to fight so well? I was so happy when he got Mikhail on the ground.

-          How cool was that procedure that Mikhail did on the parachutist? That blood from her neck exploded.

-          Juliet says she lost nine patients in three years. She wants to give Sun good news. That’s understandable.

-          Sun told Juliet about Jae.

-          So the crib was in the hidden room. That’s where they kept Claire.

-          Mikhail tried to take a grab for the satellite phone. That little SOB. I really don’t like him.

-          Supposedly, on the island, the amount of sperm count per male increases by 5 times.

-          Juliet said the baby is healthy.

-          Sun only has two months. I can’t have her dying too.

-          Juliet obviously isn’t loving the spying she’s doing on the Losties’ camps. She tells Ben she hates him. She really has to tell someone. But she was hoping that both Sun and Kate were pregnant. Is Kate pregnant too? That would be fun.

-          Who is behind the flight 815 coverup?

I loved it. 4 stars
