This was a bit of a letdown if you ask me. Just a little
bit. For two straight weeks, the show has been rock solid. This week…uh… not as good. It was necessary though.
It was necessary to leave Alcatraz
island and it was necessary to develop the Jack/Juliet relationship, but it wasn’t enough.
I have to admit that Jack’s back-story was lame; it
was boring. What was the point of having Bai Ling on the show? She freaks me out; so did her character. I couldn’t believe
that Jack could fall for a prostitute. Seriously. What’s the show taking the fans for? It didn’t make sense. Then,
I thought it was ridiculous how they spent time answering questions about his tattoos. I don’t want to see Matthew Fox
without a shirt; I want answers about the island. If it was Evangeline Lilly, then
that’s a different story.
Is it just me or did Jack seem very badass this week? I heard
Bai Ling doesn’t have any problems exposing herself (she’s very sexy), but not Jack’s type. This is what
the writers were trying to hint at: Jack lost himself. That’s why he went to Thailand. So Bai Ling’s character, Achara or Achura, can see deep down into people’s hearts and
see the truth inside.
What was Jack’s truth inside? Was it the fact that
he’s a man searching for the truth? Or is it that he’s so desperate, he’ll do anything to survive? I couldn’t
tell. Had he given up hope or was it just him taking a break from reality? Like I said before, the episode was just too underwhelming.
I didn’t care that his tattoo meant “He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us.” Honestly, we’re
not going to get anywhere if they reveal the answers we don’t want to know. I
need answers godammit.
So Juliet has been spared, but she’s been marked. That
to me would feel like execution but whatever. No one’s going to look at her the same. The island stuff was ok even though
I knew Juliet wasn’t going to die. The scene where Juliet walks passed Jack was beautiful: truly a classic moment. And
then of course we had that scene at the cage where Jack rubs Aloe on Juliet’s back. Wooo! Something is going to start
up. You could see it in their eyes on the boat. What I found extremely interesting is the idea that Jack didn’t know
Juliet killed Pickett. Only now does he really know how much Juliet did for him. He’s
gonna return the favor. Somehow. Oh ya wait. He stopped the execution. Sorry.
Boys, there’s a new sheriff in town…and she scares
me. Isabel’s the name. Was it just me or did she sound very manly? People are just labeling her, the lesbian. Hysterical.
But she follows orders well. It shows Ben is still in charge. For how long I don’t know. One person who wants him out
of the way: Alex. She is really angry. She couldn’t understand why Jack let him live. So do I.
If they really wanted to, they could have taken all the Sawyer/Kate
scenes out and the episode wouldn’t have changed. It was great to see them fighting again (or bickering). Kate’s
definitely feeling some guilt over leaving Jack behind. Why shouldn’t she? She loves him. I’m a Jater fan all
the way and I want them together. I have to say though, that Karl really freaked me out. He is outright brainwashed. Similar
to Cindy (who I hate now), he keeps repeating “God loves you as he loves Jacob.” There’s a cultish feel
to this island that is freaking me out. Cindy and Karl are definitely brainwashed. How come Juliet isn’t though? What’s
so different about her?
Spotlight on…Jack
-
Jack is on vacation in Thailand. He is trying to get a kite in the air. He sees a woman on the beach who helps him out. Her name is
Achara and she speaks English.
-
Jack is at a Thai restaurant with Achara.
She wants to know why he doesn’t know how to fly a kite. He starts talking about her father, but she says she doesn’t
care. Achara thinks he’s in Phuket to “find himself.” A man drops by and gives her a package. She says she
has a gift.
-
Jack has been sleeping with Achara. He wants
to know about her. She says he wouldn’t understand her.
-
He’s at a strip club. He follows her
to a back alley. Say says she can see who people are. She says he’s a great leader and an even better man. Jack wants
her to put the tattoo on him.
-
This time, Jack asks the beach boy for a drink
and he refuses to give anything to him. Jack notices a group of guys walking towards him. They are Achara’s friends.
While Jack is getting beat up, she’s crying. He lies on the beach bleeding as she walks away.
Tales from the Island
Jack: They’re taking
me to their home…on our island. They say the island I was on was just for work. They’re going back to their homes.
I saw Cindy, the flight attendant. No one knows where she’s been. Then, one of the kids was with her. She asked me about
Ana-Lucia. I just burst. How dare they ask me about Ana-Lucia. They all came to see Juliet’s execution. How can they
be good if they let children attend these things? Everyone is blinded by this. Juliet seems like the only one to see right
through them. I’ve gotta get out of here.
Quotable Quotes
-
Kate: “We can’t leave Jack behind.”
Damn straight.
-
Sawyer: “What do you think captain Buddykiller
will do when he sees us?” I loved this one.
-
Sawyer: “You got backwards. Ain’t
that quaint?”
-
Tom: "You see this glass house you're living in, Jack? How about I get you some stones?"
-
Isabel: “Why are you lying for her Jack?”
-
Achara: “Are you having fun with me
Jack?”
-
Karl: “What the hell’s The Brady Bunch?”
-
Jack: “I’d be much more impressed
if you had a good surgeon.”
Ben: “We had
an excellent surgeon, Jack. His name was Ethan.” Uh-oh.
-
Achara: “There will be consequences
Jack.”
Jack: “There
always are.”
Some Final Notes
-
Sawyer was singing on the boat. Someone was
happy to leave Alcatraz.
-
Karl says they have backwards. He doesn’t
know what The Brady Bunch is. That proves he’s never left the island. But
he loves Alex. That’s for sure.
-
The only thing I liked about the flashbacks
was the kite scene.
-
Tom tried getting under Jack’s skin
by mentioning how Kate left him behind. Don’t do that.
-
Karl told Sawyer and Kate to not fight; they
are lucky to be alive.
-
What’s up with working on Alcatraz?
Why do the Others work there? Why don’t they live there? I’m lost.
-
I like how Isabel let out Juliet to check
on Ben. When it suits them?
-
Isabel was really into Jack’s tattoo.
I like how those tattoos can also be applied to Jack’s stay with the Others: he doesn’t walk among them.
-
Alex was brought back to the island. Why do
they let her roam around and free the prisoners?
-
Is it me or is Bai Ling really hot? Supposedly
I heard she loves sex and she wanted to die doing it. Weird.
-
Cindy is going to get a slap in the face.
She obviously doesn’t see their true nature. And she’s living with the little blond girl who asked about Ana-Lucia.
I hate Cindy.
-
Sawyer hit Karl after he started crying. Sawyer
doesn’t take anything.
-
Sawyer called Alex, “sally slingshot.”
I died laughing.
-
Ethan was The Other’s surgeon—their
good surgeon.
-
Did you guys catch the Dharma logo on Isabel’s
podium?
-
Sawyer says Kate feels guilty because she
only slept with him because he was a dead man. That’s though.
It was ok, just not good
enough. 2 stars
