I actually
believe that this pilot was flawless. Could it have been any better if it wanted to? It had just the right amount of everything.
Kristen Bell was awesome, as well as Enrico Colantoni. They have great chemistry. Veronica
Mars is a show about teen angst, but good enough to not be a teen bopper’s show like The O.C. It also has a great sense of humour with excellent twists.
Veronica
Mars is the heart and soul of this fast-paced and well-written show. She has been rejected, mentally abused and finally, raped.
Her father was once the Sheriff of Neptune and now…he’s a private investigator. She used to sit with the popular
kids and used to date the handsome guy every girl loved, Duncan Kane. Yet, one day, her best friend, Lilly Kane, Duncan’s sister, is murdered.
Her father goes after Lilly’s wealthy father and is thereafter evicted from office. Veronica was vulnerable. Her mother
left the family, unable to cope with the situation. Abel Koontz, an employee for Kane Softwares, confesses to committing the
crime and VOILA! Case closed. Since then, Veronica Mars has refused to be rejected an in doing so, she attended an end-of-the-year
party where she got drugged and raped. All caught up? Excellent. If not, read it again… and again. The transition from
the vulnerable Veronica to the bad-ass Veronica is beautifully depicted. She has gone through hell, come back, and gone again.
Neptune is the town Veronica is blessed to live in. I’m kidding. Replete with the rich businessmen and their snobby children, Neptune has a rich upper
class and a lower class. Middle does not exist. Poor Veronica attends Neptune High, a place she fondly remembers as a paradise
until Lily’s murder. We have the rich kids driving their new Hummers and the gang members driving their motorcycles.
Has it always been like that? Why don’t rich kids drive motorcycles?
Enrico
Colantoni is excellent as Keith Mars. “Who’s your daddy,” he tells Veronica in that I’m-trying-to-be-cool
voice. He is a great guy who is still investigating the Lilly Kane file. He has not given up. Evicted as sheriff, Keith Mars
is forced to become a private investigator that barely makes enough family to have food on his table. His wife left him and
he has a suspicious daughter. His wife just vanished and since then, Veronica has tried to find the truth. Why is he still
investigating Lilly’s death? Didn’t Koontz confess?
Logan
Echolls and Duncan Kane are best friends. One is a loud jackass (from the words of Veronica) and one is a silent jerk, respectively.
I wish Veronica had zapped Logan. He is honestly the most obnoxious person I’ve ever seen. Duncan is a jerk (sorry for keep saying that, but I hate him) who left Veronica. That is unacceptable.
The Lilly Kane Files
-
Veronica’s mother was meeting with Jake
Kane. What’s the connection?
-
Why is Keith still investigating the murder?
Quotable Quotes
-
Veronica: “If you got to school here,
you’re either a millionaire or you work for a millionaire.” Great one.
-
Veronica: “I used to sit there, at that
table.”
-
Lilly: “I’ve got a secret, a good
one.” Those are the last words Lilly said to Veronica. What did that mean?
-
Veronica: “Life’s a bitch.”
-
Veronica: “Every school’s got
a jackass, he’s ours.” Logan is a jackass.
Some Final Notes
-
I hate Sheriff Lamb.
-
Poor Wallace has his first day at school and
he gets stuck on the flagpole. Veronica had the guts to take him down. Love her.
-
I was laughing when she switched the tapes.
Serves Lamb right.
-
Veronica had a picture of Principal Clemmons
in her locker. That was great!
What an awesome episode!
We got a great beginning to a complicated and twisted story. I’m hooked. 5 out
of 5 stars.
