Leave it to Beaver
Episode 1.22

It’s over. The season’s over. Let me say this, “It was awesome!” Veronica found Lilly’s killer, broke up with Logan, kicked her mother out of the house and finally said good-bye to Lilly. There’s just so much that was going one I saw this episode twice after it originally aired. Aaron Echolls turned out to be the murderer much to my dismay (I wanted it to be Celeste). This review will be longer than usual so bear with me. Everything’s important.

The title says it all. It was all because of Beaver that Veronica got close to the truth. It’s because of Cassidy’s guilty conscience that Veronica began suspecting Logan which then led her to his father. Logan’s alibi blew up in his face. I loved how Logan called Veronica in the examination room. His showdown with Sheriff Lamb was great. They both have attitude and they’re both cocky. It was a hysterical scene. Lamb finally witnesses the wrath of the 09ers. Is this the first time he’s ever arrested one of them? Anyways, Veronica began searching for the letter Logan claims to have written to Lilly, but instead, she found video tapes in Lilly’s vents. With Duncan by her side, we learn that Lilly was having an affair with Aaron Echolls. I was shocked. I’m worried though that those tapes may not be enough to lock him up for good.

There were a lot of dramatic scenes in this episode. On second thought, every scene was dramatic. Logan and Veronica had a powerful conversation on the beach. He was not angry at her, merely hurt. He thought Veronica knew him better. He began crying saying he would never hurt Lilly. He states that he realized that Lilly no longer loved him. At the carwash, he saw it in her eyes. Excellent writing. I also thought Keith breaking up with Alicia was dramatic. Alicia started crying and I thought to myself, ‘Why is Keith leaving her?’ He knows his wife doesn’t love him. The dream scene in the pool with Lilly was excellent. Veronica had a happy thought concerning Lilly. She smiled again. She finally let Lilly go. I hope we’ll see more of her in flashbacks. The most dramatic (and important) scene is when Keith told Veronica he was without a doubt her father. This was made dramatic because of the actors performances. Enrico Colantoni and Kristen Bell outdid themselves. I even felt like tearing up. I never cry when it comes to tv. That hug was just so well done and you could see the emotion on both their faces. Excellent.

I would like to comment on a small element of the episode that might have been overlooked. Keith and Veronica are very different people. Keith needed to know if he was indeed Veronica’s father. He opened the letter from the lab. Veronica didn’t care. She knew deep down that her father was Keith. She threw away the confirmation letter. Now, I won’t begin arguing over who was right and wrong. I just thought it was an interesting point. Being a father and being a daughter are completely different things. Anyways, I’ll leave it at that.

I found it amusing that Jake and Celeste turned out to be completely wrong. They thought that Duncan had killed his sister: a consequence of his epilepsy (he might have had a fit). All that trouble in framing Abel Koontz was for no good reason. Was he released from jail?

So Aaron Echolls turned out to be the killer. It all makes sense. Why would the writers introduce such a character if they weren’t going to do anything with him? That’s why they introduced Dick and Cassidy in previous episodes. The motive behind the murder made absolute sense. Lilly was shopping around (I can’t use the inappropriate words). She had a few flings. Aaron happened on her path. At that point, she was going out with Logan, sleeping with Weevil, and meeting Aaron in his house after school. It makes perfect sense.  Then, Aaron tried to get the tapes back, but Veronica intervened and saved the day. I wonder how many more times I’ll be saying that. When Veronica looked into the mirror and saw Aaron’s face, I freaked. I jumped out of my seat. You’d think by watching shows like Alias and 24 I’d be prepared for any eventualities. This caught me completely off guard. Veronica had the guts to swerve the car off the road. She was even brave enough to get the tapes from an unconscious Aaron. I would have started running. Veronica ran and found a run-down house. The scenes in the back porch were fantastic. Aaron acted just plain evil. I never understood why Duncan just let Veronica leave by herself. Keith showed up just in time and saved the day. The fight scene felt so real. It felt like a normal everyday street fight. Very dramatic.

Logan has lost his mind and is standing on the ledge of a bridge. He wants to die the same way his mother did. That’s gruesome. Weevil’s gang shows up and the rest is a question mark. Did Weevil finish the job and kill Logan? Did they come to some understanding? I have no idea.

Lianne never recovered. She checked out early from the clinic and wasted all of Veronica’s college money. I knew this was going to happen. Lianne made a mess of everything again. She then conceals alcohol in a water bottle. Is that pathetic or what? I was thrilled that Veronica kicked her out for good. Lianne stole the check that Keith received from the Kanes and the Mars family is back to square one. Veronica has no college money and there’s only a year left until college.

The Lilly Kane Files

-          Aaron Echolls has been confirmed as the murderer. He had an affair with Lilly and she threatened to reveal the secret. Case Closed.

Quotable Quotes

-          Beaver: “[Logan] drove up that morning to see her.”

-          Logan: “I exist? I thought I felt something today.”

-          Lilly: “Celeste is a bit on the nosy side.”
Veronica: “Yuck.”
Lilly: “Tell me about it. I'm getting even, though. I left phone numbers on matchbooks for Tyrone and Leroy and
Chico around the room. Give the woman a little drama in her life.”
Veronica: “Wait...who's Tyrone and Leroy and
Chico?”
Lilly: “Beats me, but they seem to really upset Mom.” I love the way Lilly talks.

-          Keith: “You think that charm of yours is learned behavior? That's genetics, baby.”

-          Logan: How many episodes of "NYPD Blue" did you have to watch to get that finger tapping down?”

-          Logan: “So I guess we broke up, huh?”
Veronica: “What do you want me to say
Logan?”
Logan: “’Logan, I'm gonna go home and put my head in the oven because I can't go on living, knowing what a heartless bitch I am!’ Something like that.”

-          Aaron: “I want those tapes you stupid little bitch.”
Lilly: “I'm the stupid one? Well, now you can just watch the tapes on Access Hollywood along with the rest of
America.”

-          Veronica: “You'd think it might be gross to read a love letter to your dad, but I kind of enjoy it.”

-          Veronica: “I bet on you and I lost. I've been doing that my whole life. And I'm through.” Finally, she came to her senses.

-          Keith: “Hey, who's your daddy?”
Veronica: “I hate it when you say that.”

-          Logan: “What do you think you can do to me?”

Weevil: “I’ll think of something.” That’s what I’m afraid of.

-          Lilly: “Don't forget about me, Veronica.”
Veronica: “I could never.”

Some Final Notes

-          Who’s behind the door? I’m hoping it’s Logan

-          I’m glad Veronica called Alicia to stay with her father.

-          Not much Wallace in the episode.

-          I wonder what next year’s mystery will be. I’m hooked.

-          This show is amazing.

-          Jake Kane went crazy. When he realized Lilly’s real killer was under his nose the whole time, who would blame him for reacting that way? Not only that, he probably also feels remorse for accusing his son.

-          Lianne is finally gone.

-          Keith tried suing the Kane family. Cliff was dumb-founded.

-          I hope Aaron rots in prison for the rest of his life.

This episode could not have been better. It all tied up and it was perfect. Everything was resolved and we got a nice cliffhanger to set up the beginning of next season. This show has surprised me and I never thought I would like it as much. It’s just great tv. 6 out of 5 stars. Brilliant.
