Drinking the Kool-Aid
Episode 1.9

You Veronica Mars fans out there might hate me for this but I have to say it; I found the episode very anti-climactic. I don’t know if it was only me, but the cult storyline could have been better handled. It felt as if it shouldn’t have been in the episode. There was no danger, there was no mystery. Veronica went in, did her thing, and came out. She learnt there was nothing wrong with the place and she left. That sort of pissed me off. I was not satisfied.

The Mooncalf Collective cult were just good people. They loved each other. I’m all for this “love your neighbor” ideal because I wish real life was like that. However, I kept feeling disappointed. Hollie told Veronica to stay away from the barn. It turns out a horse lives inside. Then, they were building up this huge mystery revolving around the secret crops. They turn out to be poinsettias. The cultists are trying to have them grown by Christmas. It did remind me of Christmas and that’s a good thing. I don’t think I hated the actual cult; I think I hated the way they were presented. When the writers build something up, it should deliver.

I loved the scene with the waterbed. Keith tries so hard to make Veronica happy. The poor guy found the waterbed at a yard sale for $10. He knew Veronica always wanted one so he got her one. He’s a great dad. It’s the little things that are big things. Personally, I get sick when I’m on one of those beds. I feel like I’m drowning. I’m weird. What do you want from me?

What do you think? Is Keith Veronica’s dad? I say yes. Deep down inside, Veronica knows he’s her dad. She doesn’t care if Jake Kane’s her biological father, she wants her daddy. I keep thinking of Keith’s favorite line: “Who’s your daddy?” I crack up every time. When Veronica through the test results in the shredder, I knew her love was thicker than blood. Wow, I’m poetic. If Keith had suspicions, would he read the test results, or would he shred them away? This is an interesting topic. Is a father’s point of view different than a daughter’s? My head’s spinning by just thinking of this. This is for sure going to pop up again.

The Lilly Kane Files

-          Veronica shred the proof that would prove or disprove her biological connection with Keith.

-          Clarence Wiedman, head of security of Kane Softwares, took the pictures of Veronica. For whom?

Quotable Quotes

-          Veronica: “So Jake Kane is your father. Deal with it, Veronica.”

-          Veronica: “I’m taking this bastard down.” After this comment, we got an equally frightening one. Veronica: “After what that family has done to mine, I intend to collect.”

-          Keith: “You’ve wanted this thing since you were five years old.’

Veronica: “I also wanted to marry Vanilla Ice and build the largest collection of Z-Bots.” Loved this one.

-          Keith: “This is so endearing. My badass action figure daughter is afraid to draw a teensy little drop of blood.”

-          Wallace: “Hacky sack. The final arena of unquestioned white domination.”

-          Veronica: “Enough already with this mellow incense and peppermints vibe. Let's break out the mushrooms and dance naked.” Loved it.

-          Veronica: “I was just reading in last month's 'Koreshian Bride' that four out of five cult leaders like their handmaidens nubile, flighty, and teetering on the edge of a breakdown.”

-          Veronica: “If I’m a heiress, by God I swear I will never take a cold shower again.” I’ve taken a cold shower. I felt like I lived in Alaska.

Some Final Notes

-          No Logan or Weevil.

-          We know who took the pics of Veronica: Clarence Wiedman. I wonder. He should be the next one on her list.

-          So Casey is back as an 09er. There are way too much.

-          Ms. Dent is gone from the cast. I loved her. Nooo!

-          I’m glad Keith didn’t turn in Rain.

-          I wonder when those pipes will be fixed.

-          Relax.

I was not crazy about this episode. It was good, but it wasn’t great. It was underwhelming. 2 out of 5 stars.
