Welcome Wagon
Episode 3.1

Veronica is back. Veronica is back. Veronica is back. I really do not like these summer hiatuses. They drive fans crazy. We want to see closure and we want to see more importantly, the show. I’ve always dreamt of a drama going on for fifty-two weeks. That would be amazing. Anyways, Rob Thomas and his crew of writers delivered yet again a great start to the season. Although he himself said he didn’t think this was vintage Veronica Mars, he was glad to have an episode that would help introduce the show to a new audience. Next week is supposed to be amazing.

Let’s focus on this week’s episode. For starters, Kristen Bell looked gorgeous. I love her with long hair. I want to tackle Logan every time he’s with her. Marry me, Veronica. It was fitting for Veronica’s first class of the year to be “Intro to Criminology.” She solved a stupid game in a matter of seconds and proved to her class that she should be teaching alongside her professor. It looks as if Veronica is off to a good start. No one hates her yet. No one wants to kill her yet. She is fitting in. They grow up so fast these days. As a matter of fact, Veronica stuck herself quick under Logan’s bedcovers. I didn’t know they were having sex. Veronica, are you sure you want to do this?

Logan looks depressed. After Dick left, he looked angry. He could burst at any second. He wasn’t cracking his usual Logan jokes. Don’t tell anyone but I don’t want the two of them together. The chemistry isn’t the same. I enjoyed them arguing and bickering; that was the magic from season one.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Veronica with Piz. He’s a great new character and as it turns out, both have already started hanging out. The scene where they watched the Welcome Wagon thief arrested in his garage was great. The chemistry between them is there and strong. He is just as sarcastic as Veronica. It was also nice to watch cheerful Veronica. This was because there was an absence of a major mystery. In every premiere, Veronica had something to be depressed about. In this episode, she was happy. She left Neptune High and moved on to college. Life is great.

Until of course Parker gets raped and her head shaved off. I absolutely love Parker. She’s great to have in Veronica’s group of friends. She is the exact opposite of Mac and sharing a room with such a person must be interesting. I loved when she got undressed in front of Mac and Veronica. I’m a guy. What do you want? At the club, she was dancing with all the guys; something Mac would never do. I get a feeling though that Mac doesn’t hate her. Notice the fact that Mac never had a sister. Yes, she had a biological sister, but not an every day one. She never truly got the opportunity to get close with her real sister. Now, she has a woman in her room that is always cheerful and happy. She has a sister that she now will have to comfort and care for. That’s nice.

If I had one problem with the episode (and this is a small problem) was the Keith storyline. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it. If the episode was truly aiming to get more viewers to watch, this storyline shouldn’t have been in the episode. For one, it would be confusing for the new fans to come in and understand what the heck’s going on. Kendall getting shot completely shocked me. Or didn’t she get shot? Could they be faking the whole thing? It looked out of place watching Kendall live in a shack wearing jeans. I’m used to watching her wear designer clothes and looking like a freakin’ model. We will sure miss ya Kendall.

The Hearst Rape Files

-          There is a rally at the school. Women who have been raped are protesting. They want the sororities closed.

-          Parker, Mac’s roommate, was raped. Her head is also shaved.

Quotable Quotes

-          Veronica (voice-over): “Here it is. First day of college. What do you say Veronica? New school…new life. How about ya try not to piss anyone off?” That’s true.

-          Veronica: “There’s something I can’t figure. What did you do for the other ten minutes?”

-          Logan: “Guess who I saw on campus today.”

Veronica: “Some girl going wild. As I understand it, it happens all the time here. I’m on the verge of it right now.”

-          Piz: “This girl, she’s our age and she’s a ‘detective.’ Is she a cartoon?”

-          Piz: “It wasn’t locked.”

Veronica: “College campus. All your worldly possession. Where are you from, Brigadoon?”

-          Piz: “A Saturn for a Mars.”

Veronica: “In Neptune. Ya the planets really aligned for this one. Now, move Uranus. The Mercury is rising.”

-          Mac (about Parker): “Look at her. She’s like boy-nip.”

-          Veronica: “It’s not often you get to see bikini babes in their natural habitat.”

-          Dick (to Mac): “My brother never cared about you, you know. You were just his beard.” That’s rough.

Some Final Notes

-          Half the cast is gone. I’m really going to miss Jackie. Duncan is a thing of the past. I’m happy. Also, Cassidy is gone. In turn, the writers added Tina Marjorino (Yay, yay, yay), Julie Gonzalo (I like her), Chris Lowell, and Michael Muhney. This is great.

-          The new credits scare me. Rob Thomas changed them because Veronica moved to college and he wanted the show to feel more mature. We’ll get used to them.

-          Dick made a grand entrance. Him with a sex doll made the crowd roar. He loves making trouble.

-          How many men did Parker have in her bedroom in one episode? Expect a different Parker now.

-          Logan is still leaving at the Neptune Grand. That’s awesome. Does he know his dad died?

-          Are we ever going to see Duncan again?

-          Seeing Dick at Hearst just goes to prove that having connections is everything.

-          Keith got Veronica a new car because he was late to New York. That’s a nice gift.

-          I like the Criminology class. Veronica should be teaching the course though.

-          Wasn’t Vinnie Van Lowe in prison?

Good premiere. 4 stars
