Postgame Mortem
Episode 3.13

Now I remember why I love Veronica Mars. Following a column I read on this season of the show, I realized why it wasn’t working: we aren’t in high school anymore. So you think…duh! But it really has made a huge difference. And this week, I know how to make it good again. And they did just that this week.

So how do you make the show good again? You bring back the magic from last two seasons. That was easy enough. They brought back the PCHers. Obviously not as strong as they once were, the PCHers are not being led by Arturo, the guy Veronica busted for the pizza thefts. They really are getting desperate. Veronica working with Weevil also worked. I don’t know why we don’t have him more. All in all, the episode just worked. It made a sense.

Finally doing what I’ve been asking, the writers are obviously going to stretch the Coach Barry murder for more than one episode. Again, another thing that makes total sense. A lot of the cases this year have not involved Hearst (except for the rapes) as much as they used to affect Neptune High. It was also a great way to get Wallace involved in the show again. Where has he been all this time? There’s nothing that says a great story than a sports controversy.

Coach Barry was killed along the P.C.H. It seems there are a lot of people who have a grudge against him. Obviously, Josh could have been a suspect, stating before the team that he couldn’t take it anymore. The only thing he knew how to do it quit. That’s a bad thought. Then we have to suspect that Mason was somehow involved. I don’t like that guy. First, he’s pissed that Wallace has taken his spot in starting, and now, he seems to be making up everything he has seen.

But then why would he escape? Did Veronica really help him escape? I doubt it. What evidence do they have against her? I don’t believe this. That ending scene with her getting arrested reminded me of high school. There it is again. I’m going to enjoy her interrogation at the Sheriff’s office. Look forward to that because it’s going to be some good times.

Logan’s storyline was hysterical…and great. Heather, the little girl, was fantastic. What a great person to have interact with moppy Logan? I mean seriously, could there have been a better match? Their story just made sense. The idyllic eleven year-old thinks love is as easy as it should be. Wait a second…why isn’t it? Because you have people like Veronica Mars who make life hard. At this point in the game, is there any doubt that she’s not going to end up with Logan? Veronica definitely felt something when she heard the song dedication on the radio. It’s great to also see Logan back to his old self. Giving his teacher the apple when coming to class was classic VMars.

More and more, it seems little Miss Mindy is not as innocent as she appears to be. I am at a loss. Why were there two guys arguing in the hotel room? Did Mindy really take the car out? Is she hiding something? Obviously. But what is it? All I know is that Keith is more invested in this than ever. It seems the dean was very fond of our Miss Mars and he wrote her a letter of recommendation for her FBI internship. What a great guy. And the things he wrote…I think he loved her.

The Dean O’Dell Murder Files

-          Mindy made a call to Professor Landry at 1:32 AM from the hotel lobby to see what kind of toothpaste he uses.

-          Someone took the car out on the 10th and brought it back at 2:59, a half hour after the Dean’s murder.

-          Egg shells were found on the Volvo.

-          Jeff Ratner, room service guy, says he brought the couple a crème brûlée. When he brings the dessert, he hears two men yelling.

-          Mindy O’Dell has kicked Keith off the case, so everything for now is being kept privately between Keith and Veronica.

Quotable Quotes

-          Veronica (about Logan): “I’ve been trying really hard not to think about it. Thanks for reminding me.” Someone’s a bit angry.

-          Dick: “Sad state of affairs when I’m the academic one on the balcony.” Come to think of it, it’s worse than a sad state of affairs.

-          Cliff (about the Sheriff): “He was thinking about it or he wanted to pee. It’s hard to know with that man.” Loved this one.

-          Logan (to Heather): “Try to stay out of the porn.” This one was hysterical.

-          Veronica: “Howdie Sheriff. A kitten got stuck up in a tree?”

Some Final Notes

-          Mason hasn’t been starting for a while. What a shame.

-          Wallace was finally back…for a second. All of our other friends have disappeared.

-          I loved watching Veronica fall for the gave-you-breakfast-now-you-have-to-help-me trick. Here I thought she was a detective.

-          The hotel was running out of salt and pepper shakers because Logan was keeping them all in his room. Love it.

-          Dick’s moment of the day: locking Logan out on the balcony was hysterical.

-          Mel Stoltz was weird. Like really weird. I don’t think he had anything to do with the murder though.

-          Dick went to Vegas and got hitched only to get pissed off with his girl on the way back. I like how Heather’s sister just left her there. Very responsible.

-          I still can’t believe Arturo is the head of the PCHers. They’re a joke without Weevil.

-          Logan and Heather bickering over which place has better ice cream was great.

-          Mason says he say Josh Barry arguing with his father. Yeah right.

-          Logan is still pissed that Veronica didn’t call back.

-          Mason told Veronica to screw herself.

-          Veronica asked her father not to get murdered. A great moment.

-          I didn’t know Veronica went for the FBI internship. I’m glad she did. That would be a great story.

-          Logan gave an apple to his teacher. Loved it.

Back to the VMars that I love. Next week looks awesome. I need it. 5 stars
