This episode was very un-Season 3 and that works for me.
This season has been hit and miss and the writers deserve a thumbs-up for entertaining me during the much-anticipated hour.
Let me just say how happy I am that the Pussycat Doll Search is over. That means
Veronica Mars is back.
The new format is working for me. The self-contained episodes
are already working for me because they seem to be more dense and interesting. More thought is put into it. This week, I loved
the “Babylon Fields” storyline with the attacked Arab family. How much a pig can a person get? There’s something
called anger and then there’s something called unorthodox. How can Derrick Karr not understand that not all Muslims
are the same? This is a problem in American society and I’m glad Rob wanted to showcase this in the episode. We are all somehow ignorant. I think we’re unaware of how American Muslims feel about the attacks on 9/11…They
don’t want to fight for the Arabs; they want to fight for Americans.
The Arab culture is misunderstood. They might seem hard and
strict, but they are just following their religion. They don’t all believe in Jihad though and I think this episode
was a very accurate depiction of what most rednecks do to Arabs and Muslims. I’m all for raising awareness for people
to understand the difference between these two very different groups. I hope we get around to that soon.
Can I say how overjoyed I am about Pizonica? That might be
the best part of this whole season. That kiss on the balcony was so passionate. That
was a weird thing to say. I just want Veronica to be happy again. I’m sick and tired of her just sobbing over Logan. And Logan is also happy so what’s the problem? But Veronica I think just fell for Piz because he took the chance and
just loves her. He is so much more different than Logan: he’s innocent and he’s polite and gentlemanlike. That hit Veronica.
But Logan is the happiest
he ever has been. Parker works for him probably because she isn’t as wild and she really is ignorant about his dark
side. She purposely doesn’t see the dark side; Veronica was accustomed to it. Did he ever throw Veronica such a lavish
party? Or were they breaking up too many times to actually have time to have a party? That
one makes sense. How is he going to feel now that he caught the two smooching in front of the elevator? I thought that
was a tad too cliché. I mean how many times can something like that happen on the show? It would have worked better if Logan wasn’t there. Veronica shouldn’t care about him anymore.
I really feel for Keith. He’s not having an easy time
at the Sheriff’s office. But you know what, he can do something Lamb never had the brains to do: clean the place up.
I don’t know if the student I.D. thing was a test or not, but it certainly worked for Keith. He got rid of that obnoxious
pain in my behind officer who thought everything was still run Lamb. It isn’t. This was really the first time we ever
saw Keith run the place the way he did. He put his foot down and it sent chills down my spine. Where Lamb did this job for
the glory, Keith does it to help others. He still cares about Neptune and that’s commendable after
all he’s been through.
Quotable Quotes
-
Veronica: “Great time to be Arab in
America.”
-
Amira’s Father: “I’m a Yankee
Doodle Dandy.” I don’t know why but I just laughed here.
-
Veronica: “You know the only buckets
I order come in original and extra crispy.” Of course they do.
-
Veronica (holding
a paintball gun): “It stings I know. You shot me there last night.” Don’t cross Mars.
-
Veronica: “Your defense is that you
shoot everyone, not just Arabs.”
-
Veronica: “A hike? You?”
Mac: “Yes.”
Veronica: “Morning?
You?”
Mac: “Yes.”
This one was good.
-
Veronica: “Men. It’s all raw-raw-raw
until you find yourself in an all-night photomat.”
-
Keith (to
Wallace about the fake I.D.’s): “I guess I don’t need to ask where you got these.” No you didn’t.
-
Veronica (voice-over):
“Things I’d rather do than go to Parker’s party solo. Seven minutes in Heaven with Scott Petersen…ride
the space elevator with Dick.” I loved this one.
-
Veronica: “Your fly’s open.”
Dick: “I know.
Party ritual.” That doesn’t surprise me.
Some Final Notes
-
What happened to the kid that got run over
in the beginning? Is he paralyzed Keith said?
-
So Veronica is running Mars Investigations.
That doesn’t surprise me.
-
Veronica was so angry when she was hit by
paintballs. I can imagine. She made all the kids clean up “Babylon Fields.” She’s good.
-
Dick decided to take out both girls from Myspace.
They were friends and they came up with a plan to teach him a listen. Then they made out in the elevator in front of Dick
before the door closed. Classic.
-
Is Mac falling for the dude from “Poughkeepsie, Tramps and Thieves”? Where was Bronson?
-
Kasir was deported to Iraq I think. That scene in the pharmacy was classic.
-
I laughed when Keith saw Wallace and Piz in
the bar.
-
I kind of felt bad for Derrick Karr up until
the point where he slammed the door in Veronica’s face. I hate when people do that.
-
I want more Pizonica.
It probably wasn’t
a four, but I’ll give it anyways just for bringing the show back well. 4 stars.
